Job Summary:

The Pediatric Nurse will provide services at a federal facility in a Native American/American Indian community in Chinle, AZ. The facility serves as the healthcare hub for the central area of the Navajo Nation. There are 40 physicians on staff, 60 inpatient beds, a 4 bed ICU and approximately 213,000 annual ambulatory visits. The facility serves approximately 37,000 patients. In addition to routine outpatient and inpatient primary care, services available to our patients include Adult Intensive Care, General Surgery (including laparoscopic surgery), routine and operative Obstetrics, and 24-Hour Emergency Room Services. This is a full-time position.

Chinle, AZ is in northeast Arizona near Canyon De Chelly. Strong Navajo cultural traditions exist within the community, offering an opportunity to learn the Navajo language, or to learn about traditional Navajo medicine. The service unit is located on the Colorado Plateau with excellent opportunities for photography, hiking, running, road biking, cross country skiing, and mountain biking. Canyon de Chelly National Monument is within 5 miles of the hospital and is a wonderful place for exploring and sightseeing, running and mountain biking.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinically competent, professional care to patients through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Effectively interact with patients, family members, and other health team members, which maintaining standards of professional nursing for pediatric patients.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Fitness for duty certification is required, issued by a licensed physician
  • Must provide immunization records prior to placement

Education and Experience:

  • 36 months of nursing experience is required, with a minimum of 12 months experience as a Pediatric RN.
  • Current, valid, unrestricted nursing license, maintained throughout the employment term.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification is mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at times.
  • This position may require extended periods of being on your feet.

Pre-employment Requirements:

Emergency Response:

Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
