Per Diem Medical Record Coder - Inpatient/Outpatient
Job description
Job Summary:
The Medical Record Coder is responsible for assuring that inpatient and outpatient medical records are coded and abstracted according to established criteria utilizing available resources both automated and manual based on documentation in the medical record provided by the attending, consulting physicians and clinical information.

Essential Job Functions:
- Abstract pertinent information from patient records. Assigns the International Classification of Diseases, (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) or Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes.
- Use available automated systems including 3M Coding & Abstracting system.
- Validate documentation and works with the physicians to assure proper coding and educated the medical staff regarding coding issues
- Achieve departmental goals regarding coding
- Work with other hospital departments to maintain accurate records to facilitate valid reports regarding medical records
- Projects a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining the confidentiality of medical information
- Works under stress and in situations that demand patience and tact while providing impeccable service
- Regular and prompt work-site attendance
- Other duties as assigned.
