Job Title: Physical Therapist

General Description:

This position is located within the Chickasaw Nation Health System in the Physical Therapy Department. The purpose of this position is to provide physical therapy services to patients referred to physical therapy and to provide supervision and instruction to department/facility staff as required.

Supervision Received: Staff Physical Therapist is under the direct supervision of the Physical Therapy Supervisor, performs with considerable independence, and is responsible for all work performed.

Supervision Exercised: Appropriately directs Physical Therapist Assistants, Physical Therapy Students, Therapy Technicians, and volunteers within their designated area.

Supervision Essential Job Functions:

  • Treat patients of all ages, race, creed, gender and disability without bias or prejudice.
  • Aid in the care and safety of patients.
  • Treat patients with respect and maintain a cooperative attitude with other employees to facilitate quality patient care.
  • Able to respect and understand patient’s right to treatment and right to involve in treatment decisions.
  • Available to confer with person(s) most closely associated with the active management of the patient care and keep them informed of any additional patient needs, treatments, modifications and/or progress.
  • Implement proper techniques to assist and handle patients, and the ability to handle tools and machines of the profession.
  • Coordinate with Supervisor in their area of the department/facility to include patient scheduling and implementing physical therapy services.
  • Perform housekeeping duties by routine and periodic cleaning to maintain cleanliness and infection control.
  • Responsible for the evaluation of assigned patients referred to physical therapy or other offered services by the department.
  • Responsible for interpreting and carrying out the prescription of the physician.
  • Responsible for completion and submission of all reports pertaining to evaluation and treatment within a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of department/facility reports, assuring confidentiality of all records to include evaluation reports/summaries, discharge reports/summaries, progress reports to referring physicians and agencies, current progress notes on all patients within their area, special reports as requested by the Supervisor and/or Manager, and daily attendance reports and summaries of the same.
  • Assure confidentiality of all records according to HIPAA guidelines.
  • Able to practice Physical therapy consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics in addition to Chickasaw Nation Health System policies and procedures.
  • Must practice ethical responsibility based on the cultural, ethnical and religious beliefs of the patients served under applicable law.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities provided to keep informed of new techniques and trends in the field of physical therapy.
  • Actively involved in various discussions, i.e. Departmental Meetings and Discharge Planning.
  • Assist with other department members to maintain inventory of materials and supplies for their area of the department.
  • Able to maintain a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the department/facility.
  • Available to provide presentations to community groups as requested and maintain good public relations.
  • Actively involved in Performance Improvement of procedures and organization of the department/facility.
  • Assist in recruitment of applicants for positions and orientates new personnel to area/department/facility. Evaluates and reports, at regular intervals, the work of other employees or volunteers within their area of the department/facility.
  • Assist the Supervisor and/or Manager in planning of any new programs to be developed within the department/facility.
  • Assist the Supervisor and/or Manager with the revision of any procedures within the department/facility personnel as necessary.
  • Demonstrate economic use of time, equipment, and supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Preferred - Knowledge of a variety of physical therapy treatment techniques. Preferred - General understanding of anatomy, physiology, physics, and medical sciences. Preferred - Able to work independently with little or no supervision. Preferred - Able to organize time in order to treat the maximum number of patients within the allotted working day. Preferred - Able to operate equipment of profession. Preferred - Possess an understanding of special populations, including sensitivity to the Native American culture. Preferred - Understand the principles and practice of physical therapy and be familiar with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics.

Education:

Bachelors Required - Physical Therapy

Education Note:

A Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy or higher is required for this position.

Training And Experience:

Preferred Training (0 - 6 months) - Basic Life Support (BLS)

Licenses, Certifications, Other:

Required - A graduate of an approved school of Physical Therapy Required - Have or be eligible for State Licensure or Registration as a Physical Therapist

Physical Requirements:

Preferred - Physical stamina and strength are essential to carry out necessary treatment and evaluation strategies.

Work Environment:

The Staff Physical Therapist will work with a variety of professions including, but not limited to: Physical Therapy staff, Occupational Therapy staff, Speech-Language Pathologists, Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Case Managers, and Social Workers. The Physical Therapy Department has outpatient clinics in Ada, Ardmore, Purcell, and Tishomingo as well as acute/swing bed therapy services at the Chickasaw Nation Medical Center (CNMC). The Staff Physical Therapist may be asked to travel to each location as assigned.
