GENERAL SUMMARY:
A physician assistant (PA) is defined as a person who is a graduate of a school approved by the AMA Board of Approval and Certification of Physician Assistant Programs, who may provide medical services appropriate to his/her training, experience, and skills, under the supervision of a registered physician. A supervising physician means a full licensee who supervises a PA. A PA supervisory physician may use a PA to assist him /her in the process of gathering data necessary to make decisions and institute patient care plans. The supervising physician will be responsible for administrative control of the PA and his/her supervision. The APP will collaborate with the entire ER team, providing quality and efficient care for all ER patient types.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Responsible for physician-supervised patient evaluation and treatment in the office setting.
- Obtains and records complete health history and physical assessment from patient.
- Analyzes data obtained during physical exam, formulates diagnosis, care plan and initiates treatment following discussion with attending physician.
- Follows physician approved treatment protocols.
- Conducts follow-up on care of patient modifying treatment when needed.
- Triage evaluation.
- H&P.
- Order/interpretation of diagnostic testing.
- Diagnosis development and treatment plans.
STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education / Training:
- A graduate of an AMA recognized PA training program that is accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission or Education for Physician Assistant (ACR-PA) and meet the requirements of the state or a Masters Degree in Nursing.
- Work Experience:
- Completion of Physician Assistant program of study. Emergency experience preferred.
- Nurse Practitioner must have some prior APP experience.
- Certification, Licensure, Registration:
- State of Michigan Physician's Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license, required
- NCCPA/ANCC certification, required
- Controlled Substance license, required
- BLS Certification, required
- ATLS to be obtained within 6 months of hire
