PIVOT Pooled Fund Director
Full-Time; Exempt
Starting salary range: $130,000 - $150,000/ annually

Position Summary:
PIVOT’s Power Building Pooled Fund is a new and exciting funder and practitioner effort that aims to raise $15-20 million to be spent over 3 years to support California's key power building innovations and the infrastructure needed to win transformative structural reforms in the next 10 years. Reporting to the program office of civic engagement, the PIVOT Pooled Fund Director helps lead California’s key power building innovations and the infrastructure needed to win transformative structural reforms. This position can work remotely.
Specific responsibilities and priorities of the position include:
- Coordinate grantmaking strategy development process with PIVOT Steering Committee
- Working in partnership with the Steering Committee in funder prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
- Develop grant making recommendations in alignment with PIVOT Steering Committee approved strategy, including outreach to prospective grantees, developing grant agreements, and relationship management
- Manage incoming grants (funder relations, fundraising and reporting)
- Day-to-day oversight of consultants (i.e. communications)
- Develop and implement responsive grantmaking procedures (RFP, review committees, scoring rubrics, etc)
- Prepare information/support strategy for moving CCF board’s approach to c4 funding along

Major Responsibilities:*
- Program Development and Management: In conjunction with the civic engagement program officer, develops and implements the goals, activities, and overall strategy for PIVOT’s power building pooled fund strategies. Reviews and revises PIVOT program strategies on an ongoing basis. Collaborates and coordinates with PIVOT’s steering committee and other funders. Oversees PIVOT budgetary resources and expenditures.
- External Engagement and Relations: Works with key business, philanthropic, community and government stakeholders to advance PIVOT’s program strategies. Finds alignment and builds necessary relationships, alliances, and opportunities for coordination. This involves building partnerships and coalitions across various sectors. Represents and provides information about the initiatives and PIVOT at community events and meetings with foundation partners, constituencies, and stakeholder groups.
- Development and Grantmaking: Works with steering committee in the review, analysis, and selection of proposals through written materials, interviews with other funders and relevant agencies. Working with the PIVOT steering committee, identifies and pursues opportunities to bring in funding partners, prepares grant proposals, and project reports, as needed or requested.
- General: At all times, demonstrates cooperative behavior with supervisors and coworkers. Other duties as assigned, dependent on the needs of the pooled fund and employee skills.

Education*: Bachelor’s degree required.
- Experience: Minimum of five years of experience working with or in a public or nonprofit agency focused on community organizing, civic engagement, and/or power building strongly desired. Minimum of three years of experience in grantmaking or philanthropy strongly desired. Experience leading and evaluating non-partisan voter participation programs as well as multiracial collaboratives or coalitions a plus.
- C*ommunication*: Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Works closely with and in frequent communication VP of PPCE and Program Officer of Civic Engagement. Ability to prepare, give presentations, and to comfortably interact with diverse audiences including foundation staff, elected and appointed officials, as well as nonprofit and community groups. Conversational fluency in a second language is highly desirable.
- Community Knowledge: Knowledge of the California nonprofit community, government agencies, elected officials and civic leadership. Working knowledge of distinct geographies and diverse neighborhoods that make up the region. Experience working effectively with diverse and broad-based community constituencies.
- Subject Matter Expertise: Possess a broad-based expertise with various forms of civic engagement (e.g., voter participation, community organizing, grassroots leadership development) and local, legislative, administrative advocacy. Strong knowledge of the civic engagement landscape in California, sufficient to serve as a thought leader in the field of civic engagement by building a rapport with other leaders in the field and contributing to its vision and direction.
- Technology Skills: Internet competency and strong computer proficiency, including mastery of the Microsoft Office software suite and a familiarity with database software, is required. Familiarity with Social Media platforms, especially as they might intersect with our focus area. Willingness and ability to learn appropriate database, spreadsheet, and other computer programs.
- Project Management Skills: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience with budgets. Ability to prioritize work, adjust to multiple demands and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities. Ability to analyze and provide solutions (programmatic and strategic) to complex problems. Ability to work independently with little direction, taking vision to project.
