About the Position

The Planning and Building Department is actively recruiting for a Plan Review Supervisor!

This position oversees one of the sections of the Building Division (inspection, plan review, permit center, and code enforcement). We are looking for a blend of technical expertise as well as softer people skills of influence, communication and negotiation.

The candidate should emphasis excellent customer service (both internal and external) and fosters collaboration among peers and staff.

The ideal candidate will have direct experience supervising subordinate staff, and has the ability to mentor, empower, and motivate staff. Takes pride in developing staff and investing in professional development Is a self-starter that strives for continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Architecture, Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Industrial Technology, Construction Management, or a closely related field. (Job related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.). In addition, four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, code enforcement or other closely related field. One (1) year of the required experience must be in a leadworker or supervisory position (California State registration as a Professional Architect or Professional Engineer may be substituted for one (1) year of the required non-supervisory experience. Certified Access Specialist Program (CASP) or Chief Building Official (CBO) Certification may be substituted for 6 months of non-supervisory experience.)

Licenses and Certificates

Certain positions within this classification may require driving. When driving is an essential function of the position, a valid CALIFORNIA driver license will be required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Possession of a current International Code Council (ICC) certification AND Possession of one or more International Code Council (ICC) certificates in areas such as: Residential or Commercial Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, Building or Code Enforcement is required at the time of application (or equivalent as determined by the Chief Building Official).

ADDITION: Within 24 months of appointment, must possess either an ICC certification as a commercial and residential combination inspector or specialized training in Code Enforcement practices. The 24 month requirement to obtain the required certifications may be extended up to an additional 12 months by the appointing authority. Failure to obtain the required certification within the time stated will result in removal from the position unless a time extension is approved by the appointing authority. Sustained certification, including any required continuing education units is mandatory for continued employment.
