The Design Planner will support Senior Planning staff in all facets of projects including aiding in the design of conceptual land use plans, residential lot layout design, and site planning. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of master planned community projects ranging from 150 acres to over 10,000 acres in size. In addition to the master planned community work, there are a variety of other public projects that we work on including downtown master plans and parks & open space master plans.
Required Experience: 1 to 3 years
Required Planning Knowledge:
- Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or other affiliated design degree required
- Understanding of land development design including, but not limited to, the layout of rights-of-way, single-family residential lotting, and accommodating various other land uses commonly seen in master planned communities
- Familiarity with the preparation of commercial site plans and parcel plan drawings
- Understanding working within the parameters of city ordinances and provide an assessment of the viability of various land uses
- Ability to produce illustrative land plans that adequately convey design intent to the client
- Ability to produce hand sketches
- Understanding of graphic design principles and color theory
Required Technical Skills:
- Intermediate experience with AutoCAD; knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D is preferred
- Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Illustrator
- Basic knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to perform zoning code and ordinance research
- Ability to research GIS data (Appraisal Districts data)
