SUMMARY OF ROLE

The Plant Operations Manager is a critical role in fulfilling the customer demands of these areas of our operation while making ongoing improvements to our processes to advance our food safety, worker safety, production productivity and overall product excellence objectives at Riviana. The Plant Operations Manager will oversee the daily operational functions of the Woodland, CA location including Production, Maintenance, Warehouse and Shipping & Receiving.

The Plant Operations Manager will partner with internal and external peers to achieve the goals of the company while honoring the core values of Riviana

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the Production, Maintenance, Warehouse & Shipping/Receiving departments.
  • Supervise and mentor shift leads in maximizing efficiencies in production.
  • Develop and expect Food Safety and Quality Assurance mindset with your packaging team.
  • Oversee, verify and validate sanitation program.
  • Ensure work is performed based on daily/weekly/monthly/annually work schedules within the department. Packaging seasonal demands may require 6 days a week during peak demand.
  • Propose and implement continuous improvements for facilities and process efficiency within the Packaging Department.
  • Develop worker safety and hazard control within your team and promote an incident free workplace culture.
  • Oversee and support department leads in weekly Safety meetings. Prepare weekly agendas and training topics. Responsible for leading monthly Safety Committee meetings and monthly Team Safety meetings for all staff. Keep Director of Operations informed on all safety issues. Work closely with HR to manage any injuries, work comp claims or modified duty restrictions.
  • Oversee Label printing and Quality Control of the labels and label stock.
  • Communicate & coordinate with the Maintenance Department for preventative maintenance, downtime and repairs. Strong understanding of mechanical principals, advanced equipment operating experience with extensive understanding of proper maintenance and configuration to maximize its performance.
  • Lead interview process for Production related staffing needs, make hiring and termination recommendations as needed. Coach and hold team members accountable to Riviana processes, standards and expectations. Must have experience with corrective action process and proper documentation. Work closely with HR on all personnel concerns of performance or conduct.
  • Influence budget, cost control, planning, scheduling and procedural changes to improve the financial accountability of the Operations Department.
  • Work with Managers, Supervisors and Technicians to achieve the goals of your department and the rest of the organization. Other duties as appropriate & assigned by Management.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Excellence in Production management with experience in coaching team members in order to manage and develop high performance teams. Foster a success oriented, accountable environment within the company.

Ability to read, understand, provide edits and input on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other documents related to compliance or business functioning.

Ability to be proactive, hands-on, detail-oriented and foster collaboration through teamwork. A creative problem solver and partner who will bring strong analytical and reasoning skills to this action-oriented culture.

Exhibit leadership characteristics including confidence, intelligence, organization, self-motivation, decisiveness, tact, common sense and a high level of energy. Past experience with a large group of diverse employees, effectively leading change and influencing for successful results.

Knowledge of industry food safety requirements (GMP, HACCP) with strong understanding of outside audit requirements under GFSI principals (preferably BRC). Understanding of Hazard Analysis and Root Cause principals.

Strong understanding of OSHA requirements to maintain an Injury and Union Free work environment while keeping operations in compliance. Experience with OSHA audits, documentation and annual posting requirements.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Food Processing, Food Engineering, Food Packaging or other related industry field; and or equivalent combination of education and experience in business, along with a track record of success in leadership roles.

Experience in managing manufacturing plant in food processing industry is required. Minimum 10 years of experience in plant operations, with a minimum of 8 years in a lead position as Production Supervisor or Manager.
