Summary of Position
The Policy Analyst supports The Carsey School of Public Policy at the University of New Hampshire in its research activities. Specifically, this position supports the research of our social policy team to conduct and/or translate research relevant to policymakers, practitioners, and advocates at local, state, and national levels.

This position is responsible for a variety of data management and cleaning activities, including aggregating and reviewing data from administrative sources, web scraping or collating data from public sources, and utilizing secondary data sources from the U.S. Census Bureau and other federal agencies. Using large, nationally-representative datasets for tracking social trends over time, making comparisons between places and demographic groups, and assessing the impact of new or potential policies is also important. This position also requires the ability to locate and synthesize existing research and to clearly translate complex research into forms appropriate for public audiences.

Research activities are under the direction of the team leader, collaborative with other team mates, although individual data management activities may be independent at times. This position is not expected to include liaison activities with existing or potential project sponsors. Potential for remote work exists.

Other minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, sociology, or field with related skills
  • Three years of related experience
  • Strong data management and documentation skills
  • Some statistical or coding skills (e.g., Stata, Python, R)
  • GIS/mapping/spatial knowledge
  • Interest in issues of inequality, policy, and/or community disparities

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with and writing for a policy audience and presenting data in a variety of graphic formats
