Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow in Psychiatry Research within Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Dr. Linden Parkes and Dr. David Zald are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join the Systems Neuroscience and Psychopathology Lab ( https://www.parkeslab.com) led by Dr. Parkes and located at the Rutgers Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research (CAHBIR) and the RWJMS Department of Psychiatry. Through a combination of basic and translational research, SNaP Lab seeks to uncover the pathways that track the emergence of psychopathology. Dr. Parkes’ team leverages multi-modal MRI, network analysis, and machine learning to study how complex neural systems shape behavior and cognition, and how dysfunction in these systems predicts psychopathology.

Under the direction of Dr. Zald, CAHBIR (https://sites.rutgers.edu/cahbir/) provides a state-of-art facility for brain imaging research. Additionally, centers including the Rutgers University Center for Cognitive Science, the Rutgers-Princeton Center for Computational Cognitive Neuropsychiatry, the Rutgers Brain Health Institute and the RWJMS Department of Psychiatry provide exceptional opportunities for learning in clinical and cognitive neuroscience.

Postdoctoral fellows will be jointly supervised by Dr. Parkes and Dr. Zald and will contribute to ongoing projects and develop independent research projects that fall within the broader research goals of SNaP Lab. Responsibilities of the Postdoctoral Fellow include designing, organizing, executing and communicating the results of research studies that further the aims of the lab. Research topics are quite flexible and can include developing machine/deep learning algorithms for predicting psychopathology (as well as cognition & behavior), network science applications to studying brain organization, and multi-omics analysis. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be supported to develop their own research program at the intersection of the above topics. While the area of research is flexible, the Postdoctoral Fellow will be expected to conduct analysis of large open access neuroimaging datasets (e.g., HCP, ABCD, PNC, UKBiobank). The department has a strong track record in supporting postdocs and junior investigators to successfully obtain competitive research funding including awards from the National Institutes of Health and the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Perform neuroimaging data analyses, including both functional and structural MRI data.
  • Take a lead role in communicating the results of neuroimaging studies through scientific journal articles and conference presentations.
  • Work with the research team to ensure conformance with the quality standards of the research lab.
  • Keep detailed records of procedures and experiments.
  • Assist with grant and IRB protocol preparation.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate students as well as research assistants conducting research in the laboratory.
