The Role
The PAT Technician will fulfill the mission statement at Panorama Eye Care by
assisting with the effectiveness and efficiency of the pre-surgical patient. This position
will interview surgical patients to optimize outcomes and maximize resources in person
and via phone.
Major Responsibilities:
Practice appropriate telephone and patient triage skills, being aware of the need to balance quality care with efficient use of time and resources.
Perform verbal assessment with patient prior to admission – in person or via telephone, communicating information to appropriate team members.
Ensure pre-operative care requirements of patients are accomplished through use of anesthesia guidelines.
Perform patient teaching/education as established by the department and within scope of practice.
Assess pertinent information, plan, implement, and document interventions and evaluate results.
Maintain and promote patient’s safety by assessing physical and psychological needs.
Respond to telephone inquiries regarding expressed needs of the caller.
Perform outbound follow-up calls as requested.
Provide general health information under the direction of the PA and/or the nursing staff.
Refer caller to appropriate resources including medical/ambulatory care, hospital services, and community services within established procedures and guidelines.
Thoroughly document all call encounters utilizing manual and/or on-line information systems at the time of the call.
Alert anesthesia of results of labs, physical assessment, or special needs of individual with medical problems – prior to date of surgery.
Use effective communication techniques which adhere to common standards of courtesy.
Answer inquiries in a timely and helpful manner.
Communicate arrival time and NPO instructions to patients as prescribed.
Demonstrate knowledge of the ASC policies, protocols, and safety plans.
Contribute to the goals of the center and support the center’s philosophies.
Demonstrate flexibility in performance of patient care tasks to achieve timely, responsive, cost effective and high-quality care. Demonstrates flexibility in performance to achieve the center’s goals.
Accept responsibility for own professional growth and continued education.
Demonstrate high quality customer service to our patients, their families, physicians and each other.
Respect the confidentiality of the patient.
Document and report incidents according to procedure.
Adheres to PEC Mission Statement and actions reflect respect for patients, families, and all health team members.
Serve as preceptor/participates in unit teaching and orientation program for all new staff.
Communicate effectively, conscientiously and frequently with all team members to share information and independently solve problems in a positive, results oriented manner.
Coordinate and promote continuity of patient care through clear communication and harmonious working relationships.
Knowledgeable in surgical procedures, medications, anesthesia techniques and ambulatory surgery to answer patient questions and give appropriate preoperative instructions.
Provide pre-operative instructions and emotional support to patient, family, and significant other.
Communicate appropriate information to surgeons and anesthesiologists concerning patient care.
Communicate special physician’s orders.
Complete patient charting, including medications in an accurate, concise, and timely manner. Both in NextGen and Surgical paper charts.
Demonstrate ability to prioritize patient needs.
Maintain a quiet, safe environment.
Utilize material, equipment and time in a safe, therapeutic and cost-efficient manner.
Maintain and apply the scientific knowledge relevant to the care requirements of the patient with consideration of age specific and developmental needs.
Attend staff meetings, educational and safety programs.
Demonstrate the ability to respond appropriately in an emergency situation.
Demonstrate organizational skills to facilitate a smooth flow of the workload
Practice flexibility in scheduling to provide adequate staff coverage on unit.
Any Medical or Surgical advice must go through the PA, RN or Physician.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Possess good communication skills and the ability to maintain interactive/interpersonal relationships
- Possess a good working knowledge of the medical and surgical process.
- Interview/communication skills, nursing assessment skills, critical thinking/problem solving skills, and teaching/counseling skills
- Possess strong computer skills and experience with health care applications, Microsoft and/or Windows applications
- Ability to work in a self-directed environment with little supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Telephone voice/speech pattern is articulate and has a pleasant tone

Additional Job Details:
Works at our clinic location, in Fort Collins, CO.
This is a Full -Time Position.
Compensation for this role will begin at $20.00 an hour based on experience/certification.
Education/Certifications/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
- MA required. Must have current appropriate licensure in the State of Colorado, if applicable.
- Previous medical and/or Surgical experience required.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand/walk for long periods of time (up to 12 hours per day) in a fastpaced setting.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop and twist without restriction, pain or discomfort.
- Ability to assist patients in and out of wheelchairs, push wheelchairs.
