This is a Revenue Recognition Principal within the Accounting organization covering our lending, banking, and money movement offerings. Position is located in San Diego, CA. This leader is primarily responsible for ensuring the accounting and operations functions are working accurately, efficiently, aligned to our policies for revenue recognition and for driving the strategy to attain those goals. As an individual contributor, responsibilities include working with the business unit marketers, product managers, Finance, and IT teams to understand business strategy, systems roadmaps, and end-to-end offering requirements in order to provide technical revenue guidance and ensure proper systemic and manual revenue accounting. This is a highly visible and exciting role in the Finance controllership group in service to accurate revenue recognition and financial statements while supporting Intuit’s overall growth.


The ideal candidate will be able to navigate difficult issues and individuals successfully and align stakeholders in service to a common outcome. This leader will be able to independently design and implement strategies, operating mechanisms, and organize/deploy resources to plan for organizational capacity at scale. With accounting as the foundation, this leader leverages his/her business acumen and influence to tackle tough challenges and transform operations from an end-to-end perspective.

What you'll bring

Skills particularly important to success are:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Finance/Accounting with minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience, or equivalent work experience; CPA/MBA highly desirable.
  • Superior technical accounting and revenue knowledge for financial statements and internal controls over financial reporting. Demonstrated understanding of theory and application of relevant accounting literature including revenue recognition and transfers and servicing of financial assets.
  • Strong end-to-end process orientation with demonstrated analytical thinking, project management, and problem-solving skills. Proactively address issues, own the outcome, and continuously strive for best in class processes and deliverables.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to influence cross-functionally and at all levels of management. Effectively navigates social dynamics of teams, groups, and organizations.
  • Confidence, good judgment, energy and personality to work in a dynamic, multi-business unit environment across all levels of management and across business units and functions.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, time prioritization and risk assessment
  • Professional skepticism and a testing/validation mindset. Background in public accounting or internal audit is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications, presentation and influencing skills, including the ability to elevate issues to the right level internally and externally to resolve. Superior ability to clearly articulate a point of view and adjust communication style and content to suit audience needs. Frames complex issues into simple stories.
  • Strong PC, worksheet and word processing skills.

How you will lead

  • Understand the end-to-end operational, financial, and systemic environment and key upstream and downstream processes that drive financial and customer impacts.
  • Develop and drive strategy to support revenue recognition, new offerings, and business changes. Actively plan and mobilize teams towards more complete automation of the revenue we recognize. Must possess the leadership qualities necessary to drive change and adoption of the strategy.
  • Develops, maintains, and enforces the Company's policy under applicable GAAP, developing new positions and interpretations as needed. Stays connected to current business and offering strategies. Includes interactions between ASC 606 and ASC 860.
  • Make decisions based on data and accounting guidance and drive end-to-end outcomes independently. Transparently communicate decisions, tradeoffs, plans, goals and strategies across multiple organizations to ensure alignment to the objectives and teams to do their jobs effectively.
  • Proactively lead and influence cross-functionally and at all levels of management. Cultivate strong relationships with leaders in Accounting, Finance, and across the Business in order to facilitate timely, high-quality decision-making in connection with revenue recognition matters.
  • Work well through ambiguity, with confidence in making tough calls and leading through adversity with a sharp focus on driving the right outcomes.
  • Use excellent communication skills to inspire confidence in decisions and provide transparency as to status and trade-offs, with the ability to bridge between accounting, technical, and business mindsets with ease.
  • Monitor the internal and external environment and anticipate desirable change. Stay current on evolving Accounting Standards pronouncements and updates under prevailing regulatory bodies (FASB, SEC), incorporating into current Company policy as necessary. Maintain active relationships with professional colleagues outside the company in order to understand current best practices.
  • Establish and maintain controls necessary to ensure that revenue forecasts, deferred revenue balances and revenue accounting execution are compliant with Company policy and GAAP.
  • Develop training and outreach programs and delivers this training to business unit and functional team leaders.
  • Ensure the proper accounting treatment for all product and service offerings is documented and that related accounts are properly prepared, reviewed, and substantiated.
  • Streamline systems and reporting tools to ensure efficient and accurate recording and proper classification of revenue.
  • Participate in revenue recognition due diligence activities related to potential acquisitions.
