The Azure AD team is hiring engineers who are passionate to work on high scale, distributed, highly available, and secure cloud native services. As a Principal Software Engineer you will have an opportunity to work on the latest technologies in storage, distributed systems and apply innovative algorithms for solving problems at scale and high performance. We need collaborative developers who can think big and find creative ways to meet these big challenges.
Responsibilities
We are looking for a Principal software engineer with a track record of delivering distributed cloud services and passion for solving hard problems. Our culture is inclusive, and casual. Our engineers come from diverse backgrounds, are passionate and grounded in our customer needs.
- Build and evolve high scale distributed service.
- Work with customers and partner teams to understand and resolve complex issues.
- Participate in all stages of product design and development. Dive deep into global-scale service issues and drive improvements to resiliency, latency, and product reliability.
- Champion improvements in the quality and stability of service fundamentals and promote engineering best practices.
- Engage with experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative solutions.
- Demonstrate customer empathy, curiosity and willingness to question and learn, and participation in live site on-call rotation.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

Background Check Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings. Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years’ experience building and shipping production grade software or services with emphasis in telemetry and monitoring
- 4+ years of experience building distributed services
- Deep technical knowledge of Azure cloud architecture and services, or similar experience with Amazon Web Services/ Google Cloud Platform
- Experience in developing high throughput services with asynchronous programming
- Hands-on experience implementing various migration strategies
- Worked on solutions built for massive ingestion and adaptive scale
- Deep desire to work collaboratively, solve problems with groups and find win/win solutions
- Communication skills to interact with audiences that include customers, peers and executive leadership
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
