Job description

Operate a Flexographic Printing Press and/or a In Line Print Press and/or Extrusion Machine. Assist in machine set-up for orders if needed, trouble shoots machine when it is down or not performing to standard ensures quality production and maximum efficiencies, recommends improvements in production methods, and participates in team activities. Our teams work an alternative work schedule either 5 am to 5 pm or 5 pm to 5 am. The teams alternate work days such that they work a 4/3 schedule. This means one week they work 4 days, the next week 3 days. Work every other weekend. With this schedule there are 30 hours OT monthly since the first 10 hours worked are straight time and the other 2 are OT. We have both machine operator trainee roles and experiened opportunities available.

Basic Responsibilities

• Sets-up machine to specifications outlined on the order
• Sets-up machine to standard set-up time & procedure
• Operates machine to standard production target and waste target
• Trouble shoots machine when it is down or not performing to standard
• Assists maintenance with machine repairs and preventive maintenance
• Responsible for ensuring that the day-to-day operation of the machine is consistent with the policies and procedures which make up the Quality System.
• Continuously improve the process as an individual and as a team member
• Ensures work area is kept clean according to AIB standards
• Ensures all environmental standards and requirements are met
• Provides direction to production operator and crew members
• Drives continuous improvement activities

Specific Duties

• Performs inspections per Quality Procedure
• Cleans machine and area according to schedule
• Completes all required tracking forms (Job Plan, Shift Run Report, Quality Sheet, and checklists)
• Ensures materials are available for next order & next shift
• Sets the example of safe operation by following established safety guidelines; Follows established safety guidelines; holds self and others accountable
• Initiates and supports improvement initiatives
• Handles, prepares, and transport hazardous waste to 90 day storage area.
• Other duties as instructed by Supervisor

Authorities

• Directs the work of the machine crew, which includes 1, or all of the following: operator or assistant
• Makes "run / don't run" call with input from supervisor
• Ensures everyone has the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

• Meets production targets (% performance to production plan)
• Meets quality targets (number of complaints)
• Meets waste targets (waste %)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge

• Basic machine functions
• Reading, writing, and arithmetic
• Ability to measure with measuring tape
• Must pass pre hire drug screening (incl. marajuana), background and hearing tests.

Physical Dimensions:Work is medium difficulty. There are 10-20 occurrences per day of heavy work. This occurs when shafts are lifted, on the average weighing 50 lbs. Shafts can be controlled by hoist equipment if available.
