Job Responsibilities


Located in Upper Mount Bethel, PA2

The ALAM Process Specialist is responsible for serving as the process subject matter expert for specified process in the manufacturing facility. The Process Specialist utilizes process knowledge, technical expertise and operations experience to assist in correcting process or equipment issues and improving process performance and reliability. The purpose of this role is to utilize plant resources(s) with working knowledge of the process to coach and enhance the technical capabilities of the teams by sharing experiences, technical skills and knowledge. The Process Specialist is a key “influential leader” and must lead in a way which demonstrates the importance of the “what” and the “how.” They must lead their team to implement change in a feedback rich environment which generates mutual respect and committed team members. Results must be achieved in a sustainable fashion. The Process Specialist is expected to be able to thrive in a fast paced and very dynamic environment.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Drives a culture of “Do It Safe, Do It Right the First Time” with their actions and their words on a daily basis. Puts Safety and Quality first.
  • Technical / process subject matter expert in that area of the plant.
  • Coaches team members to resolve advanced operational issues with the process.
  • Performs or assists in process related root cause investigations or failure analysis
  • Makes data based decisions and is methodical in the analysis.
  • Takes action to resolve gaps between performance and goals. Works with the Supervisor to hold the plant teams accountable for delivering on their goals.
  • Enhances the skills and knowledge of the production, maintenance, and QC technicians through coaching on process, equipment, systems.
  • Is able to lead the team to develop process and systems to achieve sustainable results. Does not rely on brute force techniques. Builds the strength of the management systems so results are sustainable.
  • Is able to form effective partnerships with leaders of other organizations and functions to align on shared strategies and goals. Can effectively work across boundaries. Can lead through influence.
  • Makes decisions with a view towards what is best for Air Liquide Advanced Materials, what is best for the plant, what is best for the individual. Seeks win/win outcomes.
  • Identifies areas for improvement and networks with Technical Community Leader (TCL) resources to improve processes and systems in ALAM and greater Air Liquide.
  • Creates, leads and, assists Continuous Improvement Teams, and performs work with internal and external TCL experts on issues relating to their area of expertise (i.e. work with reliability engineer to resolve mechanical reliability issues).
  • Works with the Supply Chain planners to identify permanent plant process changes and Bill of Material updates for the ERP system
  • Is the Production Rep for PHA, JHA evaluations in their area of expertise.
  • Is a site champion for North West Analytics, Statistical Process Control and Process Automation.
  • Is a key enabler for the Digital Transformation of the sites to digital work instructions, tablets, work flows.
  • Has the business acumen to make ALAM successful by making tactical decisions to support the ALAM business plan. Is able to represent ALAM to its customers. Participates as required in Product Stewardship audits, customer visits, and provides support to address and resolve customer needs.

Required Qualifications
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Senior Production Tech certification, or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of chemical, food or pharmaceutical plant operations experience
  • Experience working with highly hazardous chemicals; toxic, flammable, pyrophoric
  • General knowledge of Process Safety methodologies; PHA, Loss Prevention, HAZOP, PSM or RMP and ability to gain in depth expertise.
  • Root cause investigation and analysis skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Self-starter with the ability to perform well under pressure and changing priorities
  • Ability to communicate concisely and effectively in written and verbal formats with stakeholders at multiple levels in the business.
  • Expertise in the current ALAM process aligned with the posting.
  • Actively participate on ALAM’s emergency response (ER) team and ER entry team
  • Must be and remain clean shaven at all times
  • Ability to wear a full face tight fitting respirator and a fully encapsulated (Level A) ER suit, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), or any other tight-fitting and/or supplied air respirators (SAR)
  • Ability to medically pass a respiratory test and physical test in order to wear a full face respirator as required
  • Fitness for duty, including but not limited to: ability to lift 50 pounds and climb ladders
  • Successfully complete all assigned and required training

Preferred Qualifications
  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification or equivalent knowledge
  • Statistical Process Control, Statistical Quality Control experience
  • 5S and Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Experience working in dynamic environments of short time to market and high customer expectations.
  • Experience working in an empowered organization.
  • Understanding of the principles of chemical process automation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
