Southern Automotive Wholesalers is proud to be a supplier for our country’s Department of Defense. We assemble a number of direct current electronic components such as starters, generators and alternators for military land and marine applications. In addition, we provide kitting, repackaging, and the redistribution of parts for various military applications worldwide.
Founded by Thomas Tyson in 1981, Southern Automotive Wholesalers began as a small automotive parts supplier in Royal Oak, Michigan. As the business grew and our product line transitioned toward military applications, we moved to our current location in Pontiac, Michigan in 1986. We are well known for our extensive knowledge with 12V and 24V DC mobile power systems as well as our ability to procure parts for older military equipment applications.
Job Description:
The position is responsible for the company’s entire production operations. This includes the assembly of DC electronic components and accessories, kitting, and repackaging of parts and materials to our customers’ required quantity and quality standards. Plan and perform all production functions safely while minimizing costs. Recommends, implements, and coordinates activities for the production processes to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations.
Reports to: General Manager
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, direct, and run optimum day-to-day production operations to exceed goals
Increase production, assets capacity, and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards
Be responsible for production output, product quality, and on-time shipping
Allocate resources effectively and fully utilize assets to produce optimal results.
Implement strategies in alignment with our company’s strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus to production staff
Monitor production operations and trigger corrective actions
Share a trusting relationship with peers, manage and develop plant staff
Collect and analyze data to improve waste or overtime
Execute plant safety procedures
Assist in the development of systems and processes which track and optimize productivity; define production standards; and measure performance against targets to ensure effective return on assets
Address employees' issues or grievances
Influence and learn from senior management
Stay up to date with latest production management best practices and concepts
Job Requirements:
5 years of related experience in Manufacturing or Assembly Plants
(DC electrical automotive and/or Department of Defense contract experience preferred)
Proven managerial experience
Knowledge of MS Office
Working knowledge of Pentagon 2000 software is a plus
Strong leadership skills and a can-do attitude
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Fluency in written and spoken English
