As a PROFESSIONAL FEE CODER for Aspirus, Inc. you perform coding functions for multiple specialty areas. Processing professional service charges, including verification of CPT and ICD codes through our EPIC Workqueues. You may also process technical component charges in compliance with Provider Based and RHC Billing requirements.
This position has the ability to work at any Aspirus facility or remote.
- Verifies accuracy of diagnosis, evaluation and management (E&M) and procedure codes selected by the provider using ICD and CPT coding systems.
- Reviews EMR charge review work queue to ensure all services have been charged as required by guidelines.
- Research questionable diagnoses or missing charges through review of patient medical record.
- Monitors provider coding and documentation for accuracy.
- Works directly with physicians to resolve coding and documentation issues.
- Coordinates for accurate charge entry and to assure compliance with bundled services regulations (i.e., 72 hour rule) for same day services.
- Reviews denials of charges from insurance carrier and advises on necessary action to resolve issues.
- Resolves problems with claims having errors related to improper coding and provides feedback for correction and follow-up.
- Assists patients with billing and insurance questions.
Experience/Qualifications/Licensure
- Knowledge of coding principles normally acquired through an Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Business Services, or an equivalent program with emphasis in coding or a minimum of two years coding experience.
- Experience or certification in a specialty area is beneficial.
- Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the prior medical office experience.
- Certification in coding by a recognized professional organization is required within 18 months of date of hire.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, coding, billing practices, reimbursement practices, and clinic policies and procedures.
- Ability to assess medical record documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Knowledge of professional component documentation, coding and billing regulations and reimbursement systems.
- Knowledge of technical component documentation, coding and billing regulations and reimbursement systems per Hospital Outpatient Medicare guidelines and regulations.
- Knowledge of EMR process/workflows.
