Job description
Schmidt Futures is a philanthropic initiative, founded by Eric and Wendy Schmidt, that bets early on exceptional people making the world better. We knit talent into networks, bet on the most promising ideas through diverse forms of competition and support, and equip people to scale through partners and modern tools. To realize this vision, Schmidt Futures uses a broad set of tools — including gifts, grants, investments, and startup activity — for charitable, educational, and commercial efforts with a public purpose. Our initiative brings together the efforts of various charitable and non-charitable entities to improve our potential impact by making diverse types of capital available to the efforts we support.

The Manager will be responsible for:

    • Driving the schedule arc, design thinking, session content creation, and speaker management elements for the 2023 Futures Forum (as it evolves) in direct coordination with the various stakeholders within Schmidt Futures including the office of the CEO, our line of effort leaders, and the Communications team. They will do so while reporting to the Community team and with highly frequent collaboration with our external production team.
    • Creating overall programmatic narrative for the 2023 Futures Forum, inclusive of all session titles, descriptions, session assets/creative, session run of show and speakers.
    • Driving all program design and session description memos.
    • Managing all aspects of speaker engagement from the vetting and invite stage to pre-event engagement and briefings to on site management.

Some of the desired capabilities and qualities include:

    • Enthusiasm and energy for collaboration.
    • Drive to work in high-impact philanthropic ventures.
    • Commitment to building robust relationships and to supporting colleagues effectively.
    • Advanced organizational, and time management skills.
    • Experience using event-management platforms or relational databases (Airtable preferred).
    • Impeccable verbal and written communication.
    • Experience interacting with C-Level Executives.
    • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, poise, tact, and diplomacy to accomplish work objectives.
    • Understanding general trends in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector.

Requirements:

    • 5+ years of program design experience, particularly familiarity with high level, world stage conferences (combination of in-person and virtual).
    • Project management expertise with the ability to prioritize tasks and execute on deadlines in an organized manner.
    • Ability to swiftly shift gears quickly in a fast-paced setting.
    • Effective communication skills in a highly collaborative environment with a diverse range of high level stakeholders.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Strong integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
    • Expectation to be based at the Schmidt Futures offices in New York and to be able to travel within the U.S. and internationally on a regular basis as needed following company policy and permitting circumstances.
At Schmidt Futures we are committed to fair, transparent pay and we strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target base salary range for this role is $155,000 to $185,000. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies and experience.
