Purpose
Responsible for advising students and managing a portfolio of education abroad programs. Duties include designing programs, promotion, participant recruitment and selection, and pre-departure preparation; coordination with domestic and international partners; and associated administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
  • Recruit, advise, select, and prepare students for assigned programs. Provide students with appropriate academic and program advising. Design and manage information sessions, pre-departure orientations and returnee sessions individually or as part of a team. Manage student incidents abroad in collaboration with Global Risk and Safety.
  • Manage a portfolio of programs including, but not limited to: reciprocal exchange, affiliated, faculty-led and internship/experiential programs. Work directly with assigned academic units to integrate study abroad into academic degree plans. Build and maintain professional relationships with key academic advisors and faculty, develop a strong understanding of the academic structure of degree plans and departmental goals related to internationalization, identify opportunities for academic collaborations and conduct activities in support of mutual goal. Play an active role in developing and expanding curriculum integration. Identify and develop new programs based on the needs of students and/or academic partners on campus. Manage and evaluate existing UT education abroad programs in various countries as assigned. Actively contribute to the annual proposal cycle and program reviews.
  • Serve as the primary contact for students and serve as a liaison to offices on campus regarding education abroad programs and policies. Ensure completion of administrative processes associated with the functions above, either through supervision of student workers or directly. Participate in staff meetings, special projects, and committees, including office-wide strategic planning and policy development. Collaborate on the processing of academic credit and conduct other associated administrative tasks.
  • Develop marketing materials and presentations.
Required Qualifications
Demonstration in application materials and interview of the following competencies, typically acquired through a Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree and one year of relevant experience: Experience developing or managing programs or projects and working well in a team-environment. Experience working with diverse groups and with college students or similar populations. Ensure professional demeanor in all activities and interactions, with a focus on strong intercultural communication skills. Effective problem solving skills and good decision quality; results-oriented; strong organizational abilities; the ability to manage multiple priorities and effectively prioritize; a customer focus which includes students, faculty, staff and external partners; composure in stressful situations; and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Significant experience living, studying, or working abroad.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience advising and coordinating exchange, affiliated, faculty-led, internships or experiential programs abroad. Experience initiating new programs/projects and assessing the effectiveness of these activities in meeting intended objectives. Experience working in a higher education context. Demonstrated creative and relevant marketing knowledge. Proficiency in a foreign language. Academic degree in international education or a relevant discipline. Demonstrated regional or academic expertise.
