Grounded in the liberal arts and the service philosophies of Wellesley College, the Albright Institute for Global Affairs draws linkages between education and practice for aspiring global leaders at Wellesley and exemplifies and advocates for the value of diverse and multidisciplinary perspectives when addressing global challenges.

The Program Director role includes both strategic and operational functions to ensure the ongoing success of the Albright Institute. The Program Director works closely with the Provost and Faculty Director on strategic questions and oversees all aspects of the day-to-day operation of, budgeting for, and promotion of the Institute’s fellowship, internship, and other programs.

S/he will establish and maintain strong relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumnae experts, and thought leaders, and the Albright Institute’s Ambassadors Council. S/he will work with the Faculty Director to develop partnerships and programming focused on interdisciplinary approaches to global affairs. S/he will collaborate with other offices, academic centers, and academic institutes on campus with expertise relevant and beneficial to the Institute. S/he will serve as a resource to Wellesley students interested in global affairs, including through service on the College’s International Safety Committee.

S/he will supervise the Special Projects Coordinator as well as other staff and students as necessary.

Position Responsibility

Fellowship Program:

  • Manage fellowship admissions process including establishing and implementing recruitment procedures, outreach, application evaluation and review, and notification.
  • Foster a cohesive, supportive experience for Fellows (while on program and as alumnae) focused on principles of personal and professional growth and collaborative leadership in the context of global service.
  • In conjunction with the Provost and Faculty Director, annually develop the overall concept for Wintersession programming.
  • Coordinate content and logistics for three-week Wintersession for Albright Fellows, involving alumnae, thought leaders, practitioners, and Wellesley faculty.
  • Manage Class Representative system for engagement with Fellows of all cohorts.
  • Set and enforce internship policies for Fellows; advise Fellows on internship search, travel, and safety (in cooperation with Career Education).

Institutional and Operational Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight on the Albright Institute’s financial operation, including fundraising and donor stewardship.
  • Manage the Albright Institute’s operating budget and restricted program and internship funds.
  • Manage alumnae and donor relations in coordination with the Development Office.
  • Develop and implement public relations strategy and tactics.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations of the Institute’s curriculum and pedagogical model and alignment between activities and mission statement.
  • Oversee work of Special Projects Coordinator and annually recruit and oversee two student assistants and one Fellow mentor.

Foster Public Discourse

  • Expand the Albright Institute’s contribution to the wider Wellesley community, through collaborative event programming and other opportunities to intellectually engage with students, alumnae, faculty and staff on global issues.
  • Oversee planning of 5-7 on- and off-campus symposia, events and named lectures annually.

Global Programs & Partnerships

  • Work with the Faculty Director to maintain current global partnerships and experiential learning opportunities and to seek new partnerships and opportunities in line with the Institute’s values and mission.
  • Engage alumnae working on global issues to provide support and mentorship to Fellows as well as stewardship of the Albright Institute through the Albright Ambassadors Council.
  • Conduct recruitment and steward relationships with host organizations/internship sponsors for select global internship opportunities open to all Wellesley students.
  • Manage the Anchor Point Fellowships in Global leadership program (recruitment, regular engagement with Fellows, and organization of biennial off-site conference).
  • Serve as a resource to the campus community for global affairs programming.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Special Projects Coordinator, two student assistants, one Fellow mentor.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • 5-8 years past experience in undergraduate/youth leadership programming, events management, logistics, budgeting.
  • Experience living and working abroad.
  • Knowledge of global affairs.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience working in a college/university setting would be a plus.

  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities and adjust workflow accordingly.
  • Demonstrated success in building and cultivating relationships.
  • Must be a team player who operates at a high level in a collegial environment.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a culturally diverse workplace.
