POSITION SUMMARY
Associated Recreation Council is hiring a full-time benefitted Program Director Substitute for regional locations. The Program Director Substitute is responsible for overseeing, developing, and implementing all program offerings during a Program Director’s absence. This position provides Leadership support for ARCs licensed school-age and preschool programs at multiple locations, offering a high-quality child-care experience for children ages 3-12. The Program Director Substitute is responsible for creating and supporting a fun, safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for staff and participants. They establish and strengthen positive relationships with Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) staff, Seattle Public Schools (SPS) staff, parents, and participants. As an ARC employee, the Program Director Substitute is committed to staying true to ARCs mission, vision, and values and must demonstrate the ability to maintain confidentiality, handle employee and public personnel inquiries with sensitivity, tact and diplomacy while respecting the diverse populations at ARC and the community ARC serves.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Staffing Support
- Promote and incorporate ARCs mission and vision in all duties and in the community.
- Develop and oversee the implementation of high-quality program offerings.
- Manage program operations by communicating job-related responsibilities effectively to staff and demonstrating desirable leadership qualities.
- Promote teamwork and collaboration among ARC staff.
- Mentor, train, and coach staff in the development and implementation of programing.
- Use critical thinking to problem-solve, trouble shoot and plan to minimize risk.
- Oversee and/or lead opening and closing procedures daily.
- Collaborate with SAC team members to ensure the success of participants.
- Communicate with SAC team members, families, community center staff, and Seattle Public Schools (SPS) staff.
- Develop and maintain professional and positive relationships with families.
Administrative/Operations
- Create program and snack plans.
- Conduct regular assessments, observations, and audits of programs, participants, and staff paperwork to be in compliance with Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) licensing and School-Age Program Quality Assessment (SAPQA) requirements.
- Frequently review and maintain staff and child files per DCYF requirements.
- Create staff schedules.
- Complete budget planning with area operations supervisor.
- Plan and lead staff trainings and meetings.
- Attend all required meetings and trainings.
- Conduct regular one-on-ones with assistant directors, leads, and counselors.
- Communicate and collaborate often and effectively with our partners (SPR, SPS, licensors, all ARC departments and other organizations.)
- Conduct interviews.
- Partner with HR recruiting team to meet staffing needs.
- Responsible for maintaining workplace expectations and documentation (staff recognition, performance improvement needs/concerns.)

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, scanners, and photocopiers. The person in the role will travel between multiple locations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to type, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The person in the role is required to travel to multiple programs and may be exposed to different weather conditions.
POSITION TYPE |EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position; days and hours of work vary depending on program needs. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Schedule varies depending on site and time of year.
TRAVEL
This position requires frequent travel within the City of Seattle between various ARC locations; must have a valid driver’s license/insurance and reliable transportation.

EDUCATION | EXPERIENCE
- COVID-19 Vaccination Required
- A minimum of 45 college credits in any one hundred-level or above college coursework or equivalent as approved and verified in the electronic workforce registry.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with school-age children.
- Minimum one year of supervisory experience.
- Documentation of current First-Aid/CPR certification, HIV/AIDS, blood-borne pathogens education and training, a valid Washington State Food Handlers permit, have cleared a TB test; 30 hours STARS training or documentation of exemption is highly preferred
- Successful completion of a WA State and Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) Portable Background Check (PBC) certificate.
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Valid Washington State Drivers license or Washington State ID Required
- Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, including the Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) licensed programs;
