The Opportunity
Ulteig Engineers Project Management team has an opportunity to hire a Program Manager based out of Sacramento, California. This will be a challenging role in which you will provide leadership on a portfolio of projects in the hydroelectric power engineering industry, serve as the project manager for multiple high-profile projects, and build strong positive relationships with key clients. In this role you will often be involved in the entire scope of the project from initiation through close-out.
The successful candidate must have exceptional leadership, organization, and communication skills and possess the ability to successfully navigate through and resolve complex and oftentimes multi-functional challenges associated with large projects. The work will be performed at a combination of Ulteig’ s Sacramento office, at the client’s office, and/or at project locations which will require some travel.
What You'll Do
- Program Management
- Lead program strategy alignment, stakeholder engagement, benefits management, governance, and life cycle management
- Maintain program documentation in an organized manner that facilitates efficient utilization by program team members
- Facilitate program-level meetings to communicate important information to program team resources, or to discuss and update the program management plan, benefit register, risk register, stakeholder engagement register, or program RACI
- Promote and monitor the execution of project delivery processes on all projects within the program
- Provide oversight and QC reviews for monthly client forecasting and reporting
- Management of subcontractor engagement, contracting, relationships, and performance reviews
- Invest in continuous process improvement driving effective and efficient project execution
- Project Management
- Provide strategic project management leadership for large and complex projects
- Responsible for the overall management of the project scope, schedule, and cost
- Accountable for key project decision making
- Manages a collaborative project team to ensure each key functional project discipline is meeting the planned project scope, schedule, and cost
- Lead overall project – coaching, conflict resolution, facilitation, motivation and negotiation
- Responsible for leading project meetings
- Point person for contract negotiation and management
- Accountable to develop, update and manage the project plan
- Coordinate communication and provides status updates to stakeholders as required
- Responsible for ensuring project data is accurate in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
- Assess project risk and proactively develop mitigation plans
- Proactively manages project requests for information and action items
- Work collaboratively with the Project Controls team to ensure project schedules and costs are managed and tracking to plan
- Responsible for negotiating and executing contracts and services agreements
- Responsible for leading projects through all internal and external processes
- Ensure availability or seeks out adequate resources to support the project
- Proficient in analyzing problems, identifying alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations to support project scope, schedule, and cost objectives
- Business Development & Client Relationship Management
- Work collaboratively with the Program Director (CTL), Senior Program Manager, and ALs to maintain a high level of client service and resolve both project and non-project related issues
- Participate in Client Solutions CTL/AL meetings
- Engage with select client stakeholders to discuss evolving opportunities and offer potential solutions to known issues
- Maintains customer focus to meet or exceed customer expectations and represent Ulteig in a professional and courteous manner
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Demonstrates excellent leadership, verbal/written communications, time management, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Consistently produces results that meet goals, has high work standards, and understands the business environment and processes
- Achieves results by problem solving, setting priorities and organization

- Work to be performed at various locations including Ulteig’s Sacramento office, client’s office, and project sites
What We Expect from You
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required
- PMP or higher/equivalent certification preferred
- 8 - 10 years of construction, engineering, and/or project management experience in hyrdroelectric power generation, transmission, and/or distribution industry is preferred
- Must be analytical, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work in high-pressure situations while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic and collaborative attitude
- Strong analytic and information management skills
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, management, client, public, and external agencies
- High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple endeavors with clear expectations and timeliness
- Excellent presentation and verbal/written communications skills
- Proficiency in project controls (scheduling and cost control) utilizing Microsoft Project Professional and/or Primavera P6
- Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project)
- Must be able to travel to project sites as required
- Must have permanent work authorization for the US
