Position Summary: The Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring high quality deployment of software solutions with minimal employee and member disruption at Technology Credit Union (Tech CU). The scope of responsibilities includes a strong understanding of requirements and features of software solutions, developing a comprehensive test plan, building flexible and reusable test automation solutions, execution of test plan, and post deployment verification.
Responsibilities: Essential Duties

  • Participates at the commencement of application and software development projects to fully understand functional requirements.
  • Understands and interprets technical, system, and architecture designs.
  • Develops formal test plans that detail scope, functionality, performance, risks and acceptance criteria.
  • Hosts meetings with project team for test plan approval.
  • Participates in project sprint planning meetings.
  • Develops test scripts based on project requirements and features.
  • Collaborates with project management and technical team to understand, test and resolve defects.
  • Automates test execution and test data gathering/preparation through scripting.
  • Ensures Tech CU Enterprise Application updates are thoroughly tested prior to release.
  • When necessary, obtains an understanding of application behavior through reviewing raw code.
  • Documents test scripts through Tech CU’s document management system to enable archival and referencing when appropriate.
  • On occasion, assists IT support and technical teams to help troubleshoot issues surrounding software solutions.

Work Schedule*

  • Full-time; typically 40 hours/week
  • Flexible schedule within core business hours, M-F
  • Flexibility to occasionally work early or late hours, and extended weekend hours, typically with advance notice.

Qualifications: Education: BS/BA Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Emerging Technologies or related technical/business discipline.

Experience: *

  • 5+ years’ experience in related disciplines including programming and development, databases, project management, and software quality assurance.
  • Strong hands-on experience in black box and white box testing.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Agile development practices and tools.
  • Strong experience working with Jira, Confluence and testcase management plugins like X-ray, Zephyr.
  • Strong experience working with SOA with REST and SOAP service integrations.
  • Solid experience in testing Mobile and Web Applications.
  • Solid experience in version control tools such as Git, Bitbucket, etc.
  • Leadership experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with core banking applications is highly desirable.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: *

  • Strong understanding of software QA methodologies: Functional, Regression, Unit, Smoke, Performance, User Acceptance, and Integration.
  • Strong documentation abilities using Word, Visio, Confluence and similar tools
  • Strong understanding of, and ability to adapt to, Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.
  • Strong ability to develop automated test scripts, test data preparation and debugging through programming. Experience and proficiency with tools such as Selenium (with Java, JavaScript), JMeter, Postman. Knowledge of SQL server.
  • Proven ability to lead with passion and by example, setting a tone and foundation for a highly responsive, productive, efficient and supportive team.
  • Uncompromising ability to implement simple solutions that are “fit for purpose” (fulfill business needs), “fit for use” (available when needed) and a “right fit” (fits the size and complexity of Tech CU).
  • Strong business writing, collaboration, communication and presentation skills.

Licensing/Certifications: * ISTQB testing certification is highly desired.

Travel: * May be required to travel occasionally to Tech CU locations outside of headquarters, typically with advance notice. May be required to occasionally attend offsite training, meetings or events, including some overnight travel, typically with advance notice.

Typical Working Conditions: * Office environment or remote work with interaction with a variety of internal and external parties. May work remotely as determined by business need and individual performance.
Equipment Used: May routinely use standard office equipment, including computer, phone, copier and other devices.

Physical Requirements: *

  • Sitting for up to 85% of the day.
  • Reading a computer screen and perform keyboarding tasks for up to 90% of the day
  • Frequent speaking and listening to interact with team, management, vendors and authorities in person or via phone
  • Mobility to attend meetings within office building and offsite

This is a grade 14 position, with a salary range from $99,200 to $158,800 with bonus potential of 10%. The anticipated range for new hires is between the low-end and midpoint of the range, depending on experience. Tech CU is a pay-for performance organization that benchmarks base pay to the 50th percentile of our market and we provide incentive-based compensation aligned with successful accomplishment of individual and corporate goals. The salary mentioned above is based on working in San Jose, CA. Salaries are based on the geographic location in which you live if working remotely.

Pay: $99,200.00 - $158,800.00 per year
