Adams Vegetable Oils Inc. (AVO) is a leading provider of specialty vegetable oils, supplying both domestic and international customers in a wide range of markets.
The company is currently seeking qualified candidates for Quality Support Technician at its oil refining plant, located in Arbuckle California (approximately 40 mi. North of Sacramento).

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
The Quality Support Tech reports directly to the Quality Manager. The Quality Support Tech assists the Quality Manager in QFS programs at Adams Vegetable Oils, with growth opportunity to assist with equivalent programs at other Adams Group entities.

Adams Vegetable Oils has a growing number of specialty products which require nuanced, detailed QFS program management. The Quality Support Tech should be excited by the dynamic nature of a growing product portfolio with an eagerness to learn about new products and markets.

The Quality Support Tech executes existing QFS programs and policies and suggests updates or revisions to those programs and policies when able. This requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to understand the role that these QFS programs play in the overall success of the company. The Quality Support Tech will develop a knowledge of all production lines and laboratory processes, which helps them become efficient and independent in administering QFS programs.

  • Execute existing QFS programs and policies, and suggest updates or revisions to those programs and policies when able. Programs include but are not limited to:
  • Environmental Monitoring
  • Annual Monitoring of Product Quality
  • Shelf Life
  • Allergen
  • Food Defense
  • GMP
  • Risk Assessments
  • Organic
  • Non-GMO
  • Kosher, Halal, RSPO
  • Micro program including process water & equipment sanitation
  • Regularly assist in audits of QFS programs for continuous improvement
  • Participates in customer, regulatory, and supplier audits and supports by handling logistics such as travel, food, or day-of point of contact for visitors
  • Assists in developing and delivering educational materials for team member training in relation to QFS programs or corrective actions
  • Assists real-time in quality incidents at the direction of the Quality Manager by;
  • Investigating incidents both independently and in collaboration with other departments such as operations, customer service, and production planning
  • Logging data of each incident to ensure a complete picture is recorded for future analysis
  • Following up with other departments in a timely manner if additional information is needed in regard to any incident
  • Assists QM with reviewing incidents, analyzing trends, and compiling findings for presentation to others
  • Tests developing SOPs and provides feedback to Quality Manager or other departments
  • Updates customer-facing QFS Documentation such as Product Data Sheets at the direction of the Quality Manager
  • Gathers, analyzes, and presents data to Quality Manager or other individuals to support with business decisions such as specification modifications, variance approvals, supplier approvals, or other issues
  • Data cleanup in ERP system or other systems
  • Supports R&D efforts by administering testing regimes for new or changed product quality and accumulating meaningful data for reporting to management
  • Promptly informs management of known or anticipated problems
  • Exercises tact and discretion in interpersonal contacts; respects confidentiality of privileged information particularly with developing products
  • Demonstrates commitment to continued personal and professional growth

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry or related field and/or 5 or more years of experience in food manufacturing, Quality, or Food Safety
  • Some experience in food production, especially Organic, Non-GMO, Kosher and Halal is a plus
  • Excellent grasp of Microsoft Office programs and ERP/MRP systems, typing and report writing skills
  • Excellent time management and communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Sense of urgency & ability to meet deadlines
  • Self-directed and able to independently execute job requirements
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be proficient in reading, speaking and writing in English for the purpose of record keeping, safety and quality training processes
  • Must be willing and able to occasionally work extended hours during the week, weekends and/or holidays
  • Willing to work in any of our operating locations (Arbuckle and Woodland)
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
