GRADE 6 to 4

Summary/Purpose

The Quality Technician supports the plant in producing a high quality product by conducting problem solving activities throughout the plant. The Quality Technician will help in developing and maintaining robust Quality Systems and processes using good understanding of the product and process and principles of Quality control.

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Monitor the processes in the Value stream to ensure that the control plans and Traveler is being followed. Prevent shipping of non conforming product to the customers.
  • Review Control plans and inspection methods techniques to prevent Quality issues and maintain the quality level to meet customer requirements.
  • Schedule and support SQC operators and inspectors in the area assigned. Provide training to the SQC operators and inspectors. Resolve measurement and inspection related disputes and issues.
  • Investigate QIRs and disposition / establish reaction plan.
  • Provide timely investigation, coach & support Value Streams to develop 5/why, 8D’s, A3s & implementation of Corrective Actions taken. Follow up with product quality issues, manufacturing concerns/complaints or requests related to product information. Publish Quality Alerts, Temporary notices and instructions for customer, internal and supplier issues as required.
  • Assist with keeping the product hold area current, providing data analysis, root cause problem solving for corrective & preventative action, as well as timely/accurate reporting to Quality Manager.
  • Maintain process related documentation including checks and inspection data in an organized manner. Review as needed to maintain implementation of process Corrective Actions
  • Support new product launch and new process / new machines and equipment activities.
  • Make scrap reduction plans and improve First Time Quality (FTQ) in the plant.
  • Submit MOCRR’s as needed
  • Assist in PFMEA’s in the revisions needed after improvement actions have been implemented.
  • Assist Quality Supervisor with hourly associates in the quality area as necessary.
  • Work with the CARE area to maintain product flow in the Value Stream assigned.
  • Schedule and control the inspection activity If CARE is assigned.
  • Support and Participate in Quality circles, problem solving and other improvement teams pertaining to the plant area.
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Blue print reading and understanding of GD&T is required.
  • Able to use a systematic problem solving technique such as A3, Why-Why or 8-D
  • Able to use gages and other measurement systems such as CMM, Surface tester, Optical comparator, cleanliness tester, in addition to basic gages such as scale, caliper, micrometer etc.
  • Proficient in using computers and computer programs to generate reports and make presentations for training. Good communication skills and team orientation required.
  • Willing to obtain certification relevant to the technical skills required.
  • Need to be able to visually inspect for various defects on the products and effectively determine acceptable vs defective parts.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work weekends and overtime as requested by Manager
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a high volume manufacturing environment
