The Radio Station General Manager is ultimately responsible for ensuring WSKR-LP 95.5FM and its online stream comply with FCC rules and regulations, as well as Spinnaker Media and UNF policies for student media. When non-compliance is detected, the Radio Station General Manager is expected to take prompt and appropriate action to ensure compliance. The Radio Station General Manager actively seeks to stay current on new legal and regulatory developments and seeks professional counsel when appropriate.
The Radio Station General Manager should aspire to excellence in college radio programming, this includes: (a) regularly scheduled and formatted schedule blocks, (b) opportunities outside of scheduled blocks for students to produce specialty shows, c) free form programming during late-night shifts that, while still in compliance with FCC rules and regulations, offers students the freedom for experimentation and exploration, that serves the widest possible segments of UNF students (d) live remote programming — including coverage of UNF basketball play-by-play coverage.

Employees must meet the responsibilities and qualifications of the position consistent with a minimum of 20 hours of competent effort each week. The Radio Station General Manager must:
- Be available in the office during business hours to address client, staff, FCC inquiries, and concerns;
- Interview, hire and oversee staff, giving regular feedback and instruction;
- Oversee working conditions, making sure to maintain a positive, productive workplace;
- Deal with personnel matters, including payroll, priority registration, office availability, resignations, terminations, and dispute resolution;
- Training staff on all audio software and equipment and FCC regulations;
- Supervise and spot check staff performance and client satisfaction;
- Stay aware of trends in the industry;
- Follow and instill the ethics, guidelines, and laws of the bodies (such as College Broadcasters, Inc, Society of Professional Journalist, the FCC, the U.S. Constitution);
- Oversee and enforce department policies and Spinnaker Media bylaws;
- Communicate with staff and fellow leaders according to department policies;
- Produce or DJ a 1 hour, weekly radio show;
- Attend weekly leader meetings, unless excused for absence;
- Attend monthly Advisory Board meetings, in keeping with Spinnaker Media’s Advisory Board Bylaws;
- Balance the budget with the Spinnaker Media Office Manager and Adviser each month;
- Produce annual budget requests and presentations when needed;
This position requires good leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a willingness to learn audio production and FCC regulations. See Spinnaker Media Advisory Board bylaws for additional requirements.
Must be continuously enrolled at UNF for the duration of the position and not be on academic probation or suspension as defined by the most recent University of North Florida course catalog.
Preferred Qualifications
Must be continuously enrolled at UNF for the duration of the position and not be on academic probation or suspension as defined by the most recent University of North Florida course catalog.
Experience with sound systems and recording, editing, and mixing audio is helpful but not required for the position. Completed course work in digital audio production, music technology, communication ethics, or communication law is useful but not required for the position.
