Job Summary

Performance of a variety of imaging services under the direction of the Radiologist, and Department Director requiring independent judgment, initiative, and ingenuity. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. The Radiologic Technologist works effectively with patients and patients’ families and maintains a cooperative relationship with interdepartmental personnel.


DUTIES

  • Job Competency
  • Performs routine diagnostic studies of acceptable technical quality for radiologist review and interpretations. Willing to be cross trained into different areas.
  • Uses correct and visible markers and ensures patient ID is on all images.
  • Assures all darkroom tasks are performed daily.
  • Assures all charges are submitted and completed accurately.
  • Asks and documents all women of child bearing age of the possibility of pregnancy.
  • Ensures compliance of infection control policies and procedures at all times.
  • Ensures compliance of radiation safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Ensures proper diagnosis and/or symptoms are on all preliminary forms.
  • Performs venipuncture as indicated.
  • Communicates explanation of exam to patient and/or family at all times and obtains consent forms as indicated.
  • Assures sterile technique of self, patient, physician, and equipment as indicated.
  • Ensures designated work area and equipment is clean at the end of each day.
  • Orders, ensures receipt, and stocks x-ray supplies weekly.


  • Participate and contribute to the development of excellent customer relations.
  • Demonstrate a supportive and positive attitude toward the hospital and its customers at all times.
  • Communicates to the department administrator any consequential issues related to the department or hospital immediately.
  • Attends departmental meetings, in-service and educational workshops when requested.

  • Monitors the work of technical staff for quality and quantity. Reports trends and recommendations to the department administrator.
  • Actively seeks opportunities to improve skills as evidenced in the reduction of errors by the next review period.
  • Suggests matters of concern for quality improvement during departmental meetings.
  • Participates in work group efforts and data collection for quality improvement teams.

Qualifications and Education Requirements


Education: Satisfactory completion of a formal Radiologic Technology program with a Degree of Certificate from an AMA approved program.

Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

Licensed be the Arkansas Department of Health.


Work Conditions

Physical/Mental: Good physical health is required. Must be capable of effective interaction with all customers in a professional and courteous manner. Requires constant standing, walking, bending, and lifting of patients up to 100 pounds and medium weight objects. The sensory and communicative activities required for this position include feeling, hearing, seeing, smelling, and speaking.


Working Conditions
: May be exposed to contagious diseases, chemical compounds, difficult patients, and radiation.

Hazardous and/or potentially hazardous conditions are to be immediately reported to a member of management.
