The City of Lake Worth Beach invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Recreation Program Coordinator - Athletics.

This position is based on a 40-hour work week with an hourly pay of $21.12-$26.40. This position belongs to the Professional Managers and Supervisors Union (PMSA) collective bargaining agreement. This position will work at Leisure Services located at 501 Lake Avenue, Lake Worth Beach, 33460.

SUMMARY:

This is an administrative and supervisory work developing and managing varied recreational and athletic programs, camps, facilities for City-wide participation and partnerships with outside organizations, sport providers, schools or accrediting agencies. An employee in a position allocated to this class is responsible for planning, managing, developing and promoting specialized athletic & recreational programs, instructed or conducted/programmed by staff, contractual staff and volunteers in compliance with division and City standards. Program responsibility to include but not limited to: youth tackle football and cheerleading, youth basketball, youth soccer, youth baseball and athletic camps/tournaments. Position requires daily oversight and coordination of the city’s municipal gymnasium and athletic fields. Work is performed with considerable independence and reviewed by the Recreation Manager through conferences, reports and results obtained.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitors all quality components of the program and compiles records and reports to meet accreditation, licensing, funding or national organization requirements. Liaisons with accrediting agencies, sponsors, parents, participants, event committees, boards of directors, national organizations and other Departments, as necessary.
  • Coordinates registration of participants in programs or events; maintains, analyzes and evaluates attendance, program, participant and performance records. Plans, organizes, supervises and evaluates programs and scope of services. Responsible for maintaining a budget to ensure that funds are both saved and spent wisely.
  • May manage a Steering or Advisory Committee which oversees and promotes all activities related to programs. Coordinates fundraising, promotional or public relations activities. Writes, prints and disseminates routine correspondence, newsletters, invitations and programs on activities and events. Meets with the public, clubs, groups, agencies, schools, and organizations to provide information and expand programs through the use of volunteers.


JOB STANDARDS
:

An employee in this class is responsible for planning, formulating and supervising the operation and use of athletic fields, gymnasium, and all other recreation facilities. Studies community needs, develops long range and immediate recreation programs, and promotes public interest and participation in recreation activities. Plans, reviews and conducts in-service training for recreation personnel. Confers with officials, civic groups, youth groups and the general public on matters pertaining to athletic and recreations programs. Gives presentations and actively publicizes the athletic and recreation programs.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Recreation, Physical Education or related field is required. Employee must possess a minimum of two years of experience in athletic event and league planning and directing municipal recreational athletic activities. An equivalent combination of related training and experience is acceptable.
