Job Summary:


The Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CCTSI), is a clinical research institute located on the Anschutz Medical Campus. CCTSI provides infrastructure and core technology resources designed to enhance clinical and basic sciences, promote research excellence, and train the next generation of clinical/translational scientists. The CTSI has an opening for a full-time REDCap Administrator. This position will be academically housed in the Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute.

REDCap (Research Electronic Data Capture) is a web-based HIPAA-compliant data collection software used by campus investigators when collecting research data that includes protected health information (PHI). This full-time, University Staff (unclassified) REDCap Administrator will be responsible for administrative tasks related to REDCap use (e.g. managing user accounts, testing upgrades) as well as working with users to ensure creation of quality data collection tools that adhere to best practices. The Administrator will work directly with IT specialists, biostatisticians, project coordinators and other users of REDCap. In addition, the Administrator will contribute to team projects that may involve custom programming, training and presentations, and research. The Administrator requires occasional weekend and evening hours and report directly to the REDCap Lead for the CCTSI.

We are looking for a team player with strong enterprise software skills and an interest in contributing to human health in an academic environment. Must have excellent communications skills, be willing to understand CCTSI processes, and contribute ideas and solutions to a high-performing, motivated informatics team.

REDCap infrastructure and projects are developed with security and privacy considerations, ensuring compliance with Health Information Privacy and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations. Because research conducted at the CCTSI spans multiple institutions, this position at times acts as a liaison to the institutional Information Technology (IT) departments and will direct and facilitate informatics requests and services to the appropriate IT departments and institutions.

Examples of Work Performed:

This position requires independent action, and the use of discretion and creativity within the limits of institutional, state, and federal regulations to facilitate the research mission of the University of Colorado.

RedCap Administration: 25%

  • Assist with testing monthly and ad-hoc REDCap upgrades
  • Act as a “translator” between technical staff (Database Administrators, software developers, system administrators, etc.) and end users when necessary
  • Assist the campus data warehouse (Health Data Compass) team in delivering data securely using REDCap
  • Assist with the development and review of policy, procedure, and security documents

End User support: 70%

  • Provide end user support of REDCap, including creation and management of user accounts, approving user requests for database changes, responding to user questions, and communicating best practices
  • Provide end user training for use of the application and develop training materials

External: 5%

  • Participate and represent the University of Colorado in the REDCap Consortium

Qualifications:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a related field from an accredited institution
  • 2 years of professional level experience that includes experience working with the REDCap application in an administrative role and presenting and promoting REDCap information at conferences and other public events
  • Formal classroom training in database creation and management OR research methods and statistics

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active in the REDCap community, such as, the national consortium, user groups by participating in community discussions, presenting or actively participating in the national conference, and serving on consortium committees
  • Familiarity with Entity-Attribute-Value (EAV) database model
  • Clinical Research Form (CRF) creation experience
  • Experience with a statistical software package (R, SAS, Stata)
  • Familiarity with health care research, HIPAA, and other health data regulations
  • Experience delivering software training and/or technical customer support
  • Current active participation in REDCap national committees, conferences, and consortium-wide material development.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Diplomatic disposition and customer service orientation with excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with outstanding interpersonal skills, and ability to establish and maintain good customer and end-user relations
  • Ability to understand study design requirements in order to facilitate database configuration
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, yet ask questions when necessary
  • Ability to collaborate with coworkers in a team environment on complex projects, team player attitude
  • Ability to learn quickly, ability to adapt to changes in technology and its intended use
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize several simultaneous tasks with potentially conflicting priorities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Anticipated Pay Range:


The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $59,696-$75,920

The above hiring range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
