As the outreach coordinator, the ROL will lead the library’s efforts to grow the impact of its resources, spaces, staff, and services available to patrons at Candler, Emory, and in the Atlanta community. Additionally, the ROL will grow the impact of Pitts resources with researchers around the world through print and digital materials, the library’s various web presences, and the library’s social media channels. Key to success in this outreach work will be creatively imagining Pitts’ service model to reach underserved and minoritized populations. The ROL will also coordinate existing outreach programs at the library, such as the “Hands on History” K-12 program and develop other ways in which the library’s collections can have greater impact at Emory and beyond. The ROL will collaborate with colleagues within Candler School of Theology, particularly the Office of Student Life, the Office of Digital Learning, the Events Office, Advancement and Alumni Engagement, and the Office of Academic Affairs. The ROL may also serve on relevant University library committees and coordinate work with colleagues at other Emory libraries.

Reporting to the Director of the Library, the Reference Librarian and Outreach Coordinator (ROL) will be a key member of Pitts Theology Library’s reference team. The ROL will provide research assistance and traditional reference services in-person and online and will work closely with other team members to assess and communicate changes in policies, procedures, or platforms. This work will include physical presence at the reference desk, monitoring online reference inquiries, and conducting research consultations. The ROL will also play a role in selection of materials for acquisition and collection development and may supervise student assistants in reference, instruction, and outreach. The ROL will work closely with the Reference and Instruction Librarian to identify, create, promote, and facilitate outreach efforts to Candler School of Theology students, staff, and faculty, Emory University, Atlanta, and researchers around the world. This work may include making physical and virtual classroom visits as well as leading instructional sessions in the library and online.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Staffs the library reference desk and virtual reference services for 10-15 hours per week and conducts research consultations with patrons
- Coordinates outreach programming to Candler and Emory students including orientations and events
- Participates in instructional programming
- Works closely with library director to coordinate, promote, and oversee library events via social media and other print and digital outlets
- Participates in professional and scholarly associations relevant to reference and outreach in an academic library
- Maintains up-to-date professional knowledge and skills in areas related to Pitts’ patron needs and maintains general knowledge of current trends in the relevant disciplines, higher education, academic libraries, and information and educational technology
- Maintains up-to-date professional knowledge of outreach programming for minoritized and underserved patrons
- Participates in library and campus committees as appropriate for service purposes
- Establishes and maintains relationships with institutional and community partners
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in theology, religious studies, or related discipline
- 2 years of experience in academic libraries (or equivalent)
- Excellent organization and project management skills
- Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills
- Experience with social media, communications, and design platforms
- Familiarity and experience working with integrated library systems and standard research tools in the humanities
- Experience conducting or supporting research in theology, religious studies, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated teaching experience
- Demonstrated success in community outreach
- Understanding of current research practices in theology or religious studies as well as information and digital literacy trends
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in theology, religious studies, or related discipline
- Master’s degree in library and information studies (or equivalent)
- Demonstrated success teaching in higher education
- Experience conducting advanced research in theology or religious studies
- Demonstrated expertise with digital tools used in higher education
- Experience with Springshare and Integrated Library Management software
