Summary

This is the entry level position on the Michigan Medicine CRC Career Ladder. This position provides administrative and coordination support for multiple projects in the conduct of clinical research projects. This position may assist with study coordination but will not be assigned clinical trials independently. This position may provide coordination for clinical research projects such as registries, retrospective data reviews, studies in long-term follow-up, and other non-interventional studies.

At the University of Michigan's Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, assist in the day-to-day conduct of a U01 research project that is creating, evaluating, and disseminating a culturally and linguistically appropriate Research Best Practices Course for Community Health Workers and Promotoras. This is a large project with primary sites in three states, secondary dissemination sites in three other states, and many community stakeholders.

Primary responsibilities include collecting and entering data into study databases; and performing other administrative, clerical, and technical activities in support of the research program, under the direction of the project manager and Principal Investigator.

This is a term limited position through June 2024.

Assist in data collection activities, enter and manage study data using electronic resources and implement data and study quality control measures as directed by supervisor
  • Enters data to complete forms on paper, databases, or Electronic Data Capture tools
  • May assist with recruitment activities
  • May administer minimal risk consents, surveys, and questionnaires
  • Checks own work and confirms accuracy

Assist in other administrative, clerical and technical tasks in support of the project, as directed by supervisor and investigators
  • Demonstrates ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Completes simple study reimbursement with partners such as the Human Subjects Incentive Program (HSIP)
  • Demonstrates understanding of the research objectives associated with the program
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills with project team, research participants, and collaborators
  • Demonstrates effective organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills

Training
  • Gains appropriate training & knowledge of electronic data capture and databases as assigned
  • Receives task specific training to perform additional research duties as assigned
  • Willing to learn and use available technology and systems to accomplish job requirements
  • Attends and participates in all training classes assigned to this level

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or GED is necessary.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • A quick study, able to learn project and study procedures quickly
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • A team player who works well independently and takes initiative in identifying and solving problemsComfort communicating and working with people from varied backgrounds
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in combined education and clinical research experience

Additional Information

This is a 20 hour per week term-limited appointment through June 2024. There is a possibility of the position extending longer, pending available funding. At the end of the term, the appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for reduction-in-force benefits.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
