BUSINESS UNIT
Ziegler invests in private companies and funds, and sponsors private equity funds in growth-oriented, middle market companies through its proprietary investments and fund management group. Ziegler currently manages fund operations for seven funds across six fund families with plans for future funds already in process (collectively the “Funds”).
Ziegler also has an active and rapidly growing Corporate Finance practice, which focuses on delivering best-in-class advisory and financial solutions for companies and organizations across the healthcare industry. In the core practice areas of healthcare services, information technology, hospitals and senior living, Ziegler is one of the most active M&A firms offering innovative sell-side, buy-side, recapitalization/restructuring, equity private placement and strategic partnering services.
This position will focus on identifying, tracking and supporting healthcare technologies and service companies, particularly those serving senior living and care, that may be relevant to each of these practices, and building upon and developing synergies between the two above practice areas.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Fund Administration and Healthcare Corporate Finance areas, in collaboration with the Senior Living and Care teams, are seeking a full-time Research Associate to join their team. In this role, the successful candidate will work to identify and track companies providing healthcare technology and healthcare-related services (e.g. technologies for aging services, telehealth, care coordination solutions, prevention and wellness solutions, etc.), especially those applicable to senior living and care providers.
Ziegler strongly prefers candidates located in, or who would be willing to relocate to, the Chicago or Milwaukee markets, but can be flexible for the right candidate. The Research Associate will be responsible for attending and surveying exhibitors across a variety of senior living and healthcare IT conferences across the country, and as their experience grows, will likely be called upon to speak on trends in senior living healthcare technologies and innovative service models. Consequently, this position will involve up to 20% travel, likely to on average one conference per month.
The Research Associate will be responsible for:
Research of Technologies and Innovative Services applicable to Senior Living and Care Providers
- Attending various industry conferences and surveying exhibitors to identify relevant companies for potential investment by the Funds, or companies who could benefit from services that Ziegler can provide
- Conducting research to monitor trends and demonstrate thought-leadership in the sector
- Writing research reports to demonstrate Ziegler’s thought leadership related to technologies and services applicable to senior living and care
- Developing and managing databases of key companies with the potential to intersect Senior Living and Care and Corporate Finance practices
- Building-out individual company profiles and identifying potential business development opportunities for both the Funds and Corporate Finance
- Developing relationships and making connections, in conjunction Ziegler personnel, with executives of both Fund portfolio companies and targeted companies in senior living and care, healthcare, and age-tech sectors
- Communicating and presenting learnings (e.g. trends, company research) to the team within the Healthcare Corporate Finance and Fund practice areas
- Presenting in relevant conferences and educational events in Senior Living and Care, Corporate Finance and healthcare technology
- Participate as a liaison between Ziegler and key associations/entities active in this space (e.g. LeadingAge CAST, Health Evolution Summit and the ATA)
- Portfolio Company and Pipeline Support for Ziegler-sponsored Funds
- Assistance managing and supporting prospect pipelines for sponsored funds
- Supporting diligence efforts, particularly as it relates to competition in a given sub-sector
- Observing Board Meetings of Portfolio Companies as requested
- Building and managing the Market Review and Business Development Support program to support strategic value proposition for portfolio companies
- Identifying additional opportunities to drive strategic value for portfolio companies and strategic limited partners of Ziegler sponsored funds (i.e. additional programming, focus groups, etc.)
- Supporting strategic conferences and fund publications such as Fund newsletters
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate possesses the following qualities:
- BA or BS Degree in Business, Finance or Marketing
- Expert competency using PowerPoint and experience with Microsoft Excel
- Familiarity with the senior living, healthcare and/or healthcare technology sectors
