Job Summary

In collaboration with internal stakeholders, directly participates in base chemicals research and development activities supporting the discovery of proprietary catalysts, processes, products, and platform technologies to attain our longer-term strategic business objectives.

(Job Responsibilities)

The purpose of this role in Chemical Sciences is to:

• Support and contribute to the delivery of results on research and development projects with business impact by performing experimental laboratory work in accordance with safety guidelines and timely manner. Generate high quality data and information that will be critical in the progress of R&D projects. The R&D environment is a changing and evolving one in which the project work will change and the candidate will need to be in a learning growth mindset, able to take on new responsibilities.

• Support the project team by independently executing a smaller-scale laboratory projects or a well-defined part of a larger project with clear short-term deliverables. Good time management and execution skills. The candidate needs to have a solid understanding of chemistry and chemical reactions, laboratory and techniques, set up and operate laboratory equipment, make detailed observations and interpretation of the data.

• Initial duties will be in the area of synthesis and characterization of catalysts, and carrying out catalytic testing. Knowledge of synthesis, characterization and testing of catalysts used in commodity chemicals is desirable

• Future work may include supporting the work in advanced materials.

• Experience in operating and maintaining analytical instruments such as gas chromatography, powder x-ray diffraction and data interpretation is a plus.

• Experience in interpreting P&IDs, constructing and operating reactor units such as fixed bed reactors as well as batch Parr reactors (PLC programming skills are considered a plus)

• Generates, organizes and analyzes data – proficiency in EXCEL is desirable

• Maintains focus and understands personal impact on achieving project goals

  You have an advance degree in Chemistry or related discipline (BS with a minimum of 7 years relevant experience in a research laboratory)

• MS or PhD highly preferred

• You are a team player, able to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams with excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to work well with diverse teams

• You are a critical observer as well as a conceptual and analytical thinker with a demonstrated record of accomplishment of research excellence. Ability to identify when issues arise, troubleshoot problems, and recommend solutions.

• Demonstrated work execution and time management skills and capabilities

• Strong communication skills (oral, written, presentation) as well as listening skills

• Basic project management skills for planning, organizing tasks and managing priorities

• Performs given assignment within time limits and strives for high quality results

• Independently develops and applies advanced skills and knowledge. Curious and eager to learn.
