Job Summary
The Peer Support Specialist plays a key role on the treatment team in providing SUD and Mental Health support to clients while they are residents to achieve their treatment plan goals and assisting them with accessing resources, skill-building and planning for transition to independent housing and living.
Essential Functions
1. Works with clients in securing and maintaining housing
2. Works closely with other staff as a key member of a treatment team for SUD and mental health
3. Assists clients with accessing resources, benefits, and entitlement programs
4. Provides support to clients in achieving their treatment plan goals and objectives
5. Provides transportation for clients when appropriate and under the direction of Clinical Supervisor
6. Stays in contact with clients after discharge, working in conjunction with the SUD/Mental Health Counselor
7. Assists with the facilitation and coordination of skill-building such as filling out applications, budgeting, timely bill payments, community resources, maintaining healthy relationships, and applying for mainstream housing resources
8. Maintains clinical documentation in EMR system within agency stated guidelines
9. Participates in training (agency, state, regional, etc.) that will assist the employee in their position
10. Models appropriate behavior to the newer staff and helps train and orient new staff to the program. In addition to being a positive role model, provides assistance to clients, shows compassion and is effective in engaging clients in mental health treatment services wherever possible
11. Other duties as assigned by the program manager and/or clinical supervisor
Qualifications
Education
· High School diploma or equivalent.
· Must meet the Oregon Administrative Rules definition of a peer: “Any individual who has similar life experience, either as a current or former recipient of addictions or mental health services, or as a family member of an individual who is a current or former recipient of addictions or mental health services”
· Must hold a Peer Support Specialist certification from a State-approved training program. New Hires that do not hold a current certification must make an application within the first six months of employment (or sooner)
· Valid Driver’s license and appropriate auto insurance required
Experience
· Familiarity with mental illness and substance abusing population and people with disabilities, as well as community resources.
· Lived experience and understanding of the unique difficulties of those who are transient or experiencing homelessness is preferred, but not required.
· If self-identified as being someone in recovery, must be in continuous recovery from substance use dependence and have a minimum of 1 year (temporarily reduced from 2 years to 1 year) recovery
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Knowledge of alcohol and drug addiction and detoxification, mental health, and community resources and recovery programs
· Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively, both orally and in writing
· Proficiency with MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook), internet, databases and virtual meeting platforms
· Ability to maintain documentation in the EMR/Electronic Medical Record program
· Ability to work well with clients, co-workers, and community partners of diverse backgrounds and culture
· Ability to work independently and as a positive, collaborative team member. Must have the ability to get along with co-workers
· Ability to function effectively use good judgment in crisis situations
· Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred

Must be able to operate usual office equipment such as laptop/computer, telephone, fax/scan/copy machine.

Pay: $18.00 - $23.62 per hour
