Women In Distress is the only nationally accredited, state-certified, full service domestic violence center serving Broward County, Florida. Our mission is to stop domestic violence abuse for everyone through intervention, education, and advocacy.
Job Title: Residential Relief Advocate
Reports To: Residential Manager
Salary: $16.00 per hour
Days/Hours:
First shift: 6:30am-3:30pm
Second shift: 1:30pm-10:30pm
Third Shift (overnight): 10pm-7am
Weekend dayshift (Sat/Sun): 6:30am-6:30pm
Weekend nightshift (Sat/Sun): 6:30pm-6:30am
Hours vary. Must be able to cover some shifts or parts of shifts. All candidates must be flexible to work holidays, weekends, and overnight shifts as needed.
Workplace Location(s): Deerfield Beach, Florida
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services related field with personal or work experience in Domestic Violence preferred
- Bilingual skills preferred, specifically in English, Spanish, Portuguese and Creole languages
- Excellent customer service skills required
- Computer experience in Microsoft programs preferred
- Experience working in a residential setting preferred
- Candidates must possess a valid Florida driver’s license, safe driving record, and proof of automobile liability insurance.
General Job Description for Residential Advocate:
The Relief Advocate will provide supportive, trauma-informed and survivor - directed advocacy services for domestic violence survivors in Women In Distress' Emergency Shelter program. Relief Advocates provide coverage during shifts to ensure appropriate staffing within the shelter and hours and need may vary throughout the year.
Utilizing best practice models, Relief Advocates facilitate individual support services with participants to include but not limited to the registration and intake process, answering crisis calls on the hotline, crisis counseling, individual counseling, service or case management, file reviews, proper timely documentation, and facilitation of support groups.
Candidates must exhibit a positive, non-judgmental approach to survivors. In addition, candidate must have the ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, forming proper boundaries, and use of good judgment. Lastly, candidates should preferably have case management experience.
Additional requirements: Employee will be required to take the Department of Children and Families (DCF) Core Competency training and obtain a passing grade of 75% or higher.
