We are currently seeking a Respiratory Therapist to join our team. The center offers Respite Care, continuing Long-term Care, Memory Care, and rehabilitation. Westmoreland has been a valuable part of the community for the past 40 years.

Purpose of this position

The purpose of this position is to Assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders. Assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities, including the supervision of respiratory therapy technicians. Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures; maintain patient records; and select, assemble, check, and operate equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Active RT license
  • 1-3 years of experience in a long-term care or other healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of state laws, regulations and compliance standards
  • Proven ability to effectively lead a respiratory therapy department
  • Completion of RT program from accredited college or university

Delegation of authority

Authority is delegated to the individual in this position to:

  • Interviewing and examining patients
  • Teaching asthma patients how to properly inhale the aerosols
  • Monitoring the oxygen levels in patient’s blood through pulse oximetry and adjusting treatment accordingly.
  • Administering proper amounts of oxygen to patients
  • Cooperate with administration to assure efficient, cost-effective operation of the facility
  • Providing artificial breathing—in the form of ventilators—to patients who cannot breathe on their own.
  • Analyzing the amounts of oxygen through incentive spirometry
  • Testing individual lung capacities of patient’s lungs
  • Draining mucus from patient’s lungs using chest physiotherapy
  • Adjusting medical machinery, as needed, to appropriately treat the patient
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Running diagnostic tests
