Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
The retirement analyst/senior retirement analyst will administer the defined benefit and/or defined contribution plans to ensure benefit plan compliance. Responsibilities will include timely processing of pension calculations, monthly benefit payments, biweekly 401(k) plan funding, completion of the annual valuation process, and making changes as necessary to plan documents and summary plan descriptions. The senior retirement analyst will lead research efforts to ensure plan compliance, anticipate potential problems and make strategic recommendations to enhance processes and programs.

Typical Duties

Complete quality and timely processing of all pension calculations from the beginning to completion. Process lump sum and monthly payments. Complete 401(k) processing, including funding and balancing contributions and loans; ERISA account reconciliations, default loan research, lost participant searches and facilitate 401(k) transfers. (25%)

Provide customer service to our employees by responding to questions and possess the ability to explain the provisions of the appropriate pension plan. Prepare benefit packages for retiring employees. Consult with retiring employees, spouses/or financial advisors to ensure they understand their retirement programs and available options. Review and approve Qualified Domestic Relations Orders.(25%)

Lead research efforts and gather additional information necessary to make strategic decisions regarding retirement plan issues or concerns and bring to resolution. Lead the audit process for the plans and regularly audit internal plan-related processes. (10%)

Complete required testing, audits and annual pension valuation process on a timely basis to meet actuarial timelines. Review the production and distribution of annual pension statements. Facilitate completion and distribution of annual 401(k) plan disclosures, including summary annual reports, fee disclosures, QDIAs and other required notices. Complete 401(k) plan testing and required filings. Coordinate and facilitate annual QSLOB data collection and submission. (10%)

Monitor and review state and federal laws and regulations to ensure plan policies, procedures and documents are in compliance. Review operations in accordance with plan and legal requirements. Review and make necessary changes to pension plan documents, summary plan descriptions and facilitate amendments to ensure compliance with necessary changes. Coordinate appropriate and timely distribution of summary plan descriptions. (10%)

Facilitate the completion of annual and periodic reporting requirement including Form 5500, 8955-SSA and Annual Funding Notices. Facilitate and oversee annual and periodic discrimination testing and other required testing including ADP/ACP, 415 limits, 410(b), 410(a)(4) and 414(s) testing as well as other testing as required or recommended. (10%)

Partner with HRIS and IT staff on systems changes, and lead initiatives on design and testing of systems which will enhance the processing of pension related items. (5%)

Provide support with the administration of health and welfare plans and processes including life events, benefits payments and annual enrollment for both active and retired employees. (5%)

Make strategic recommendations for plan design and development.

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.


Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, human resources management or a related field or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

Six years of related experience in a compliance or retirement analyst role is required for the sr retirement analyst level.

Five years of related experience in a compliance or retirement analyst role is required for the retirement analyst level.

Knowledge of defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans and related compliance requirements.

Knowledge of pension calculation and valuation requirements and/or 401(k) processes.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently with a great deal of accuracy.

Proficiency in Word and Excel.
