Revenue Cycle Patient Service Specialist

Job Summary: The Revenue Cycle Patient Service Specialist is responsible for inbound and outbound calls to patients, posting payments, processing credit card payments, establishing payment plans, responding to patients via RCM Billing Box and maintaining compliance with department standards, HIPAA, and governing agency policies and procedures.

Primary Job Responsibilities/Tasks may include, but not limited to:

• Billing Patient Service calls, payment collection, payment plans, mailing itemized billing statements.
• Act as point person for Billing Patient Service questions and issues.
• Assist with RCM billing work queues and worklists regarding patient billing questions sent to the department.
• Process changes in demographic and/or transaction information, insurance changes
• Investigate and resolve credit balances on private accounts. Initiate refund requests according to clinic policies and procedures.
• Document patient complaints and forward to appropriate staff. Maintain log and review for systemic issues that need to be addressed by Manager for permanent correction.
• Understand and be able to effectively communicate to patients (both verbally and in written form) regarding multispecialty outpatient practice visits, procedures, commercial insurances, deductibles, and copayments.
• Participate in workgroups providing feedback and education on patient account activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education and Certifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent GED
• Experience interpreting insurance explanation of benefits.
• Experience with CPT and ICD-10 coding.

Experience:

• Medical business office experience preferred.
• Knowledge of insurance payers required.
• Athena EMR system experience preferred.
• Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) experience.

Physical Requirements:

• Work consistently requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, stooping, bending, pushing, and pulling.
• Must be able to lift and support weight of 35 pounds.
• Ability to concentrate on details.
• Use of computer for long periods of time.
