Program Description: RISE-uP is designed as a social-justice oriented, culturally responsive and anti-racist space to engage students who need support re-entering the RHS community. The program will serve a wide range of students from those returning to school from hospitalization, those struggling to engage with peers/teachers and those requiring more intensive interdisciplinary work to engage in grade-level curriculum. RHS Restorative Practices Interventionist: The RHS Restorative Practices Interventionist will be responsible for leading RISE-uP. This educator will teach RISE-uP Seminar to a group of RISE-uP Fellows (see below). They will also collaborate with RHS Administration to develop RISE-uP into an effective student support program. Therefore, they should be comfortable with the uncertainty associated with program development and have the leadership skills necessary to build towards a vision. They must be comfortable with the reality that their goals in September will be different than their goals in June because of their ability to be responsive to their experience and the evolving need of the program they build. Candidate selection will consider a number of factors including, prior formal experience with Restorative Practices, experience bringin anti-racism and culturally responsive practices to life in the classroom, their experience with MTSS and their ability to develop a programmatic vision. The interventionist will collaborate with and report to the Assistant Principal for Student Success. The RHS Restorative Interventionist will:
- Recruit, train and mentor Rise-Up Fellows
- Engage in Suffolk University Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 Restorative Practices Training
- Collaborate with administrators, counselors and teachers to plan Restorative Circles and Conferences
- Engage with Students and Teacher to understand the root cause of conflict and work to repair harm
- Facilitate Peer Mediation and Peer Mentoring
- Coach Colleagues who want to grow their Restorative Practices
- Tutor RISE-uP Students by Coordinating with their Classroom Teachers
- Collaborate with School Social Workers, Counselors, Outside Clinicians and Administrators to contribute to the development of a re-engagement plan for RISE-uP Students
- Use RHS data and research on restorative practices to inform strategic planning
