Job Description
Brookfield Properties has an immediate need for a Senior Director, Risk Management at the Corporate Office in Chicago, IL.

Position Overview
Identify risks, assess and monitor impacts of risk to the business, lead efforts to economically mitigate risks through implementing pre and post loss strategies, develop key metrics and measurements of both processes and results in order to reduce Brookfield’s overall economic cost of risk, and assist in risk financing. Assist internal and external counsel with insured legal matters and provide comprehensive legal support to all departments within the Company as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage Brookfield’s Third-Party Administrator and oversee management of all liability, workers comp, and other insurance claims.
  • Develop and implement integration strategy for consolidated general liability programs across all sectors of Brookfield Properties.
  • Develop operational risk management strategies and best practices to pro-actively manage risk exposure and loss prevention.
  • Provide risk advisory consulting to Brookfield's Corporate and Field on insurance and risk related items across all sectors in Brookfield Properties.
  • Manage the casualty, financial and professional liability, and other renewal processes including setting renewal strategy, managing broker, allocations and monitoring balance sheet reserves.
  • Maintain and optimize Brookfield’s Risk Management Information System. Optimize departmental work flows and automate when cost effective.
  • Develop and implement training programs and guidelines relating to insurance and indemnification aspects of contracts including leases, loan documents, construction contracts and management agreements.
  • Research projects as requested; document review; data analysis.
  • Resolve routine and complex issues relating to litigated or non-litigated matters
  • Prepare correspondence, memorandums, reports, presentations, etc.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor’s degree, Advanced degree preferred
  • 7-10 years experience in risk management or related field
  • Real Estate background preferred
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner
  • 5 years supervisory experience preferred
