Job Summary:

Performs x-ray inspections and quality checks of castings, semi-finished parts and finished parts, in accordance with written procedures and specifications.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree or vocational training in radiography, mechanical technology or other trades area preferred.

Experience: Two or more years of radiographic or related work experience in industrial, mechanical or machining work. Healthcare radiology experience may be considered. Must complete a trainee period before being qualified and certified to a NDT Level. After completing the training period the incumbent must be able to pass Level l and or Level ll examination.

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Skills: Ability to use inspection and measuring tools and read blueprints. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, as well as an ability to write in English. Ability to function independently with minimal supervision.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs x-ray inspection of castings and parts using PRL’s X-Ray equipment. Performs tests in accordance with written procedures and specifications.
  • Load and unload x-ray film in cassettes in darkroom environment.
  • Develop x-ray film and maintain automatic film processor in darkroom environment.
  • Check and refill developer and fixer solution tanks as needed.
  • Maintain silver recovery system by monitoring and reclaiming silver per instructions.
  • Receive and stock film in areas provided, also inventory film stock as directed.
  • Verify information on documents to correspond to parts. Record information in accordance with instruction.
  • Create new procedures and addendums as needed to facilitate RT in 6.0 MeV vault
  • Aid in orchestration of setting up 6.0 MeV vault for production
  • Provide guidance to Level III on Electric Boat concerns
  • Provide assistance in obtaining DEP and Operating permits for 6.0 MeV vault
  • Operate forklifts, overhead crane, hand trucks, floor or hanging scales.
  • Clean work area as directed.
  • Operate a pickup truck and have a valid driver’s license.

Physical and Mental Efforts:

General: Extensive mobility required, some lifting. Position requires ability to lift objects weighing more than 75 pounds occasionally; walking and standing for long durations; see objects closely; and hear normal sounds. Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with some interruptions and attend to tasks for 45 to 60 minutes at a time.

Must have natural or corrected near distance visual acuity capable of reading J-1 letters at a distance of not less than 12 inches on a standard Jaeger Test Chart. Must be able to distinguish and differentiate contrast between colors. Must be capable of passing a brightness discrimination test on an annual basis

Environmental and Working Conditions:

Industrial shop setting. Dust, dirt, debris from machining or grinding may be encountered. Must be able to wear a respirator when required. Moderate levels of noise will be encountered.
