The Building People is seeking an experienced full-time
Safety Occupational Health Manager (Safety Specialist)
. The Safety Occupational Health Manager will perform the following:
- Develop safety holiday messages for Agency-wide dissemination including Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor ·Day; Halloween; Thanksgiving; and Winter Holiday.
- Conducts inspection of the National Agricultural Library and Waterfront Building to assess the degree of regulatory and/or program compliance. Develops a written report including strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for correcting deficiencies.
- Manages and participates in monthly ARS, SHEM teleconferences discussing issues, sharing information, and promoting a common approach for handling SHEM issues.
- Reviews and responds to written comments on REE Manual 160,0, Safety, Health, and Environmental Management. Researches, reviews, analyzes, and interprets safety and occupational health standards and guidelines promulgated by external sources and develops Written policies and procedures.
- Provide justification and secures contract for renewed AgLearn safety, health and environmental web-based training courses 30 days prior to the expiration of the contract.
- Track and present courses taken monthly.
- Developed guidance and supporting documents to conduct an Agency-wide Biological/Safety Awareness Month.
- Review and/or develop safety and health training, coordinating all aspects of presentation to be offered to Agency personnel nationwide.
- Leads a Biosafety, Safety and Health Operational (BiSHOp} assessment with a multidisciplinary team of safety professionals and ARS Senior Leadership. Develops a written report inducting strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for correcting deficiencies.
- Leads a SHEM inspection and/or program review. Develops a written report including strengths, weaknesses, and recommendations for correcting deficiencies.
- Maintained SHEM outreach materials to ensure they are current. Examples include:
- Continued to expand the SHEM Library content on the AXON website, continually adding new information throughout the FY.
- Conducts research of regulatory and policy issues and provides analysis and recommendations for SHEMB to respond to inquiries from the safety field and other customers.
- Prepare the Agency's Annual Occupational Safety and Health report. Develop data call guidance, resolved field questions, collect data and collated it into useful information.
Required Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study and a minimum of 6 years of experience.
