The Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf (ENCSD) is a state school that provides a specialized learning environment for deaf, hard of hearing, and deaf-blind students. During the regular 10-month School Year, the ENCSD offers students an academic setting with low classroom ratios, career and vocational skill development, technology-based programming, and an overall accessible environment for learning through American Sign Language. In addition, the ENCSD offers a full-service boarding program for students residing outside of Wilson County. The ENCSD seeks to promote both intentional and experiential learning to provide continued advancement in student academic achievement and social/emotional well-being.
The school is currently recruiting a School Educator, working title: Testing Coordinator/Curriculum Coach . This position will serve as the Lead Teacher and will be paid a Lead Teacher Supplement of $200 per month.
The primary purpose of this position is to implement the special education appraisal process by assessing the educational learning styles and program needs of students receiving special education services and to provide diagnostic information to instructional personnel to deliver the most appropriate programs for students who are deaf and/or hard or hearing and/or with additional disabilities. The Testing Coordinator also performs a variety of professional, technical, and administrative tasks in order to direct the administration of local, state, and national standardized testing of students. The Testing Coordinator also assists school staff with preparation for test administrations and is responsible for scanning and scoring local, state and national standardized tests, as applicable and provides test results and consultation regarding the interpretation of test results in order to improve student achievement.
To qualify for the $7500 Sign On Bonus, candidates must be deemed Highly Qualified.
Highly Qualified is defined as having obtained a NC DPI Certified Teaching license with the DHH (Deaf and Hard of Hearing/88088) endorsement.
Considerable knowledge of state and local testing requirements
Considerable knowledge of the proper conditions, practices and procedures for testing
Demonstrated skill with interpreting testing results
Ability to work closely with school administrators to select, administer, and score a variety of educational assessments as a part of Exceptional Children's initial evaluations and re-evaluations
Collect and organize relevant assessment data to write educational evaluation reports
Assist school administrators with the distribution, collection, and scoring of various behavioral and adaptive rating scales
Assist school administrators with collecting various other eligibility components, such as medical evaluations, observations, parent/teacher interviews, and social developmental histories
Participate in IEP meetings to interpret results and assist in making eligibility and IEP decisions
Provide ongoing consultative services to schools, community partners, and parents regarding students' educational needs
Participate in school problem solving teams and provide consultation regarding interventions and progress monitoring
Other duties as assigned by the School Director or School Principal
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience administering standardized tests and interpreting results.
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge,
Management Preferences:
Master’s Degree from a Deaf Education Studies Program and the ability to obtain a NC Dept of Public Instruction Teaching Certification and three (3) to five (5) years of experience administering standardized tests and interpreting results.
Management will give preference to applicants who possess the ability to communicate using American Sign Language.
