Fork Union Military Academy's Mission is to educate, develop, and inspire young men in a college preparatory, Christian, military structured environment. Cadets build character and learn leadership, independence, responsibility and discipline in a setting that encourages mental, physical, and spiritual growth. Description

Staff members shall be willing to adhere to, encourage, and inspire Cadets to embrace the Academy's mission and core values; as well as encourage such behavior with their team members. Cadet safety and quality of environment is our top priority. Our housekeeping staff is a crucial element on campus. We are looking for motivated individuals whom are willing to assist us in offering our Cadets an outstanding service.

Essential Job Functions

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• None

Duties/Responsibilities:

Housekeeping

• Clean and maintain all bathrooms, hallways, and public areas in assigned buildings, including stairways, walls floor to ceiling, and dusting all furniture, fixtures, and equipment
• Strip, clean, and wax floors
• Stock cleaning closets and maintain them in a neat and orderly manner
• Keep restrooms stocked with paper supplies, sanitizer, and soap
• Collect and remove trash from trash receptacles and place outside for pick up
• Assist with unloading housekeeping supply truck
• Assist with set up and break down of tables and chairs for special events and graduation
• Assist with setting up and break down of special events
• Help with cleaning up any emergency work orders such as spills and leaks
• Performs any other duties as needed

Custodial

• Maintain a clean appearance of campus properties o Offices, classrooms, public areas, bathrooms, or other assigned areas as deemed necessary
• Cleaning may include trash removal, sanitizing bathrooms, wiping down surfaces, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning glass, etc. while utilizing proper methods and materials
• Properly maintain a variety of surfaces o Hard flooring, carpets, wood, glass, etc.
• May be asked to mix chemicals per policy, procedure, and safety guidelines
• Maintain clean and orderly supply closets; restocking as supplies arrive
• Inventory of supplies available and direct reporting of status to supervisor
• Report all repairs and pest control needs to supervisor
• May perform basic upkeep tasks to equipment including buffers, waxers, carpet cleaners, etc.
• Assist with cleaning up any emergency work orders such as spills and leaks in common areas
• Assist with set up and break down of tents, tables, and chairs for special events and graduation
• Performs any other duties as deemed necessary
  

Landscaping

• 
  Maintain a pristine appearance of campus property
• Cut, trim, and blow all grass on campus and around faculty housing
• Pick up leaves, trash, and debris on campus property and along roadways
• Weed, mulch, plant, and maintain flower beds
• Trim shrubs/trees and pick up any fallen branches/sticks
• Pick up and compact trash from campus and faculty housing
• Coordinates occasional office and classroom moves or set-ups
• Assist with set up and break down of tents, tables, and chairs for special events and graduation
• Maintain a clean, safe, and secure landscape shop
• Performs any other duties as needed
  

Seasonal Duties

• Seasonal cleaning of mud or pollens off of floors, walls, fixtures and furniture as necessary
• Seasonal cleaning floors of salt residue left over from ice melt/snow
• Off season cleaning projects including deep cleaning as assigned and deemed necessary
• Clean and maintain landscaping and snow removal equipment
• On call for snow removal
• Remove snow/ice and salt all sidewalks, roads, and parking lots
  

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Expected hours of scheduling should remain flexible. Daily shifts run from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM Monday-Friday
• Hours of work may be conditionally flexible during seasonal events, or as directed by the Academy's needs
• Must have knowledge of housekeeping and custodial best practices
• Must be able to communicate verbally with managers and supervisors
• Must successfully pass a background check and participate in random drug testing

Education and Experience:

• Prior housekeeping, laundry, or custodial experience preferred
• Fork Union Military Academy is a veteran friendly employer

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to climb up to five flights of stairs as necessary
• Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 60 pounds as needed
• Ability to sit, stand, twist, kneel, or squat as needed.
• Ability to raise arms over head to perform duties
• Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, or working on a project as deemed necessary
