Overview of Position

The Seattle Public Schools is seeking a Project Coordinator to serve as a key member of the Seattle Skills Center and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department to support the Seattle Public Schools and CTE Strategic Goals. This position will work closely with internal stakeholders including the CTE central leadership team, The Seattle Skills Center, Department of Racial Equity, African American Male Achievement and educators across the District. This position will also work with external stakeholders such as community based-organization, industry partners, students, and families. This position has three primary functions:


  • Provide program and administrative support for the Seattle Skills Center.
  • Support student and family engagement efforts for The Skills Center and CTE Career Pathways, particularly for SPS students of color furthest from educational justice, including African American male students, and their families.
  • Provide project coordination for the Skill Center Summer Program.

Seattle Skills Center Program and Administrative Support

This position will support the Skills Center Principal with program requirements needed for a successful Skills Center operation. The position will work with department Directors/Principals/Managers on various project-related tasks, including planning timelines, communications, budgets, staffing plan, orders, as well as outcome tracking, and recommend, identify, and secure appropriate resources for project completion. Responsibilities include:

  • Skills Center budget tracking and reconciliation.
  • Gather, update, and create regular reports for projects including metrics to share with stakeholders, track progress and compare to benchmarks.
  • Creation, implementation and completion of Grants, Memorandums of Understanding (MOU’s) and Contracts.
  • OSPI reporting for Program Approval, Perkins Funding and end of year compliance documentation.
  • Ensure Skills Center program pathways have key components of a high-quality graduation pathway including updated frameworks, Industry Recognized Credentials, Dual Credit, Cross Credit and CTSO or Equivalency Student Leadership.
  • Help identify and support professional learning opportunities for Skills Center CTE teachers to improve professional practices and learner outcomes.
  • Provides support to Skills Center Principal and staff to increase understanding of industry needs and Career Connected Learning initiatives in Seattle.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Administrator, District Staff, industry partners, and the public.
  • Analyze project outcomes and prepare and implement recommendations for improving operational efficiencies.
  • Develop evaluation measures to gauge the success and effectiveness of assigned projects.
  • Support the Skills Center Administrative Secretary with Student registration, transportation coordination, purchasing, covid tracking and scheduling Teacher observations.

Student and Family Engagement

This position will support the planning and implementation of overall engagement strategies for the Skill Center and CTE Career Pathway programs, including website updates, management of social media, and hardcopy content materials. Responsibilities include:

  • Identify students of color furthest from educational justice, particularly African American male students, and work with internal and external partners such as, the African American Male Achievement Department, Career Connected Learning Coordinators, Parent Teacher Student Association, and other community-based organizations, to directly engage with and provide career awareness and exploration opportunities for CTE and Skills Center Programs.
  • Regular updates of social media, including Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
  • Collaboration with SPS Communication team to develop content and monitor timelines to produce articles and videos to advertise CTE Pathway options and Skills Center offerings.
  • Identification of external sources for communication, (e.g., radio stations for “spots” advertising our programs and sponsored articles in print media) and support the creation of contracts with these businesses.
  • Update and create new hardcopy and web-based marketing materials using photos, videos, text, and maps.
  • Create department monthly e-newsletters with content provided by team members.
  • Participate in program advisories and industry partnership meetings to ensure programs offer the skills and understanding needed for career success.
  • Employ best practices, track results, and gather insights to best reach and engage our stakeholders including students, families, external industry partners with the latest news from the organization.
  • Actively help maintain a partnership database to ensure records are updated and complete.
  • Assist in managing internal email inboxes for timely responses to communications inquiries.

Skill Center Summer Program Project Coordination:

The Seattle Skill Center provides career focused courses to students in the summer. This position will provide overall project support for a successful program operation by building relationships among students, families, district and industry partners to strengthen programs and create positive outcomes. Responsibilities include:

  • Implementation and improvement of existing summer program project plan.
  • Staff hiring support, location confirmation, and partner contract creation.
  • Internal SPS service coordination, including Transportation, Department of Technology, Nutrition Services, Special Education, and Security.
  • Development and implementation of student application processes, including application monitoring and enrollment.
  • Provide clear, culturally appropriate communication to students, families, counselors, and other partners regarding Summer Skills Center classes and enrollment.
  • Engage students who need credit to stay on track to graduate and students who are furthest from educational justice.

  • Attends or participates in professional development and other activities deemed necessary by the Administrator in an effort to accomplish the objectives of the position and to achieve professional achievement.

Typical Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

2-4+ years of experience in project and communications coordination, experience coordinating multiple activities simultaneously; 2-4+ years’ experience in an educational, non-profit or an institutional environment is preferred; Bachelor’s degree in a field related to communications, marketing, or writing intensive areas, or equivalent combination of degree and experience; Master's preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work will be considered.
