The following position is to join our Corporate or Research Center Team:

Senior Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer

The Additive Manufacturing Process and Capability Center (AMPCC) encompasses a critical mass of Additive Manufacturing (AM) process and industrialization experts, the necessary equipment, and develops the strategic collaborations needed to rapidly mature the technology and manufacturing readiness of AM. The AMPCC is not a production center instead focusing on the research, development and deployment of additive manufacturing tools and processes for our business units.

The Senior Additive Manufacturing Process Engineer will be challenged with solving unique and interesting problems to enable new commercial aerospace and defense products. They will be responsible for one or more of the following activities as they relate to the AMPCC, including:

Responsibilities:

  • Develop advanced process parameters to enable complex geometries and enhanced material properties required to industrialize aerospace and defense components.
  • Investigate the sources of machine variability and develop methods to eliminate observed variability.
  • Explore the capabilities of advanced tools and equipment to characterize machines and process space.
  • Research and aid in the development of new sensing methods and data analysis schema to increase process stability and efficiency.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including materials, design, simulation, operations, and characterization engineers to gain a deep understanding of the full value stream.
  • Improve processes based on in-depth analysis results to minimize defects and improve mechanical properties.
  • Support RTX Business Units by providing process expertise and best practices.

Basic Qualifications:

  • The preferred candidate should have a strong understanding of engineering principles and hands on experience working with laboratory equipment.
  • Candidate must be able to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, collaborative team environment focused on innovation and have demonstrated both verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Scripting experience with MATLAB, Python, VBA, JavaScript or similar.
  • Experience with software and tools used in Additive Manufacturing including CAD packages.
  • Hands- on experience with metal laser powder-bed-fusion AM equipment.
  • Basic understanding of low voltage sensors and control systems.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Highly self-motivated and detail- oriented.
  • US Citizenship required.

  • Demonstrate a desire to learn something new every day.
  • Willingness to try new ideas and continue advancing technology.

Education:

  • A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.
  • Preferred candidates for this position will have an MS or PhD in Mechanical, Chemical, Manufacturing Engineering or related technical field with a minimum 3 years of relevant experience. A minimum 3.5 GPA is desirable.

Typically requires:

  • A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience.

Engineering/Other Technical Positions:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
