Summary: Assists the department with project deliverables for federally funded public health and healthcare system preparedness projects. The position plays an integral support role to ASTHO’s preparedness portfolio under the guidance of the Director, Preparedness and Response Coordination. Additional areas of work could include but are not limited to state and territorial radiation preparedness and response, and disability preparedness and inclusion. This role will also support ASTHO’s preparedness and response to emergencies, providing technical assistance to preparedness stakeholders.

Anticipated salary: $74,000 Extended experience: up to $88,000 if experience exceeds expectations
Principal Functions:
Supports the Director, Preparedness and Response Coordination with the daily administrative activities within the Preparedness portfolio. This position would support the Preparedness team’s virtual communities, work groups, meeting planning, presentations, and grant writing.
Researches and analyzes policy issues related to various aspects of public health preparedness, healthcare system preparedness, radiation preparedness and response and disability inclusion.
Develops relevant capacity building and technical assistance tools and resources as needed.
Leads workgroups and learning communities to provide input on policies and procedures for state-federal coordination of relevant planning and response.
Responds to requests for assistance and information from members, affiliates, federal partners, and national organizations.
Contributes to grant applications, spending oversight, reporting, and grant deliverables for the portfolio.
Represents ASTHO and the Preparedness program in convenings with stakeholders, work group or committee participation, presenting at and attending conferences and other professional engagements.
Coordinates and collaborates with other programmatic teams, including but not limited to, Infectious Diseases, Environmental Health, Research and Evaluation, Health Equity, and Insular Areas.
Maintains an active role as a member of the Incident Command Structure for ASTHO emergency responses.
Drafts and edits materials and oversees their timely production and distribution.
Manages assigned deliverables independently and uses independent judgment in completing activities while operating under general supervision.
Functions effectively, respectfully, and cohesively in a team environment.

Qualifications:
Master's degree in public health, public administration, public policy, or related field preferred.
2-3 years of prior related experience in areas such as public health, preparedness, healthcare, emergency management, disability inclusion.
State or local public health and non-profit experience a plus.
Knowledge of public health emergency preparedness and health security-related issues, organizations, and activities.
Knowledge of and ability to track and analyze appropriate issues and legislation at federal and state levels.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills. Ability to present information clearly.
Skilled in proofreading and editing.
Ability to use discretion and judgment in dealing with confidential, sensitive, and controversial issues.
Ability to promptly manage multiple priorities and complete assigned tasks.
Ability to develop collaborative networks and represent the organization at meetings and conferences as requested.
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in a team environment with all levels of professional, technical, and administrative staff and toward shared objectives.
Ability to travel up to 15% of time to attend meetings, conferences and participate in site visits.
