DEPARTMENTAL INFORMATION

This position is located in the Special Investigations Division and the Investigations Division of the City of Oklahoma City Police Department and reports directly to a Police Lieutenant. There is a possibility that this position will be assigned to shift two.

JOB SUMMARY AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

This position is in the S pecial Investigations Division of the Oklahoma City Police Department and is under the direction of a Police Lieutenant. The primary responsibility of this classification is to compile, maintain, analyze and track crime information, aid in determining patterns, trends, and/or identify groups and individuals of concern, and provide administrative support. A Senior Crime Analyst must possess the required knowledge, skills, and abilities prior to assuming the job. Essential job functions include: researching, gathering, and analyzing crime data to identify crime patterns, suspect characteristics, and/or demographic information; utilizing online social media platforms to obtain information and tactical intelligence relevant to criminal investigations and matters of public safety; compiling and utilizing computer systems to prepare reports, graphs and maps for presentation to investigators and/or management; sorting and maintaining police reports, crime information, bulletins, and articles used to document criminal history or statistics; preparing analytic products to assist management in the recommendation of staffing patterns and/or levels based on anticipated criminal activity; and preparing bulletins, and/or disseminating information. Other duties may include: providing functional supervision and training of Crime Analysts; and coordinating with investigators pursuing criminal prosecution and assisting in the presentation of crime information. The position has regular contact with law-enforcement personnel, other law-enforcement agencies, citizens, etc. to gather criminal statistical data and exchange work related information. The employee works primarily independently and reports to an immediate supervisor. The work products are reviewed by the immediate supervisor for overall quality, accuracy, and adherence to departmental policies and procedures.

VETERANS PREFERENCE

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of the theory, principles, practices, and methods of crime analysis.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of statistical and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles, practices, and methods of proper collection and preservation of digital evidence.
  • Skill in obtaining open source intelligence through online social media platforms.
  • Skill in organizing, compiling, and working accurately with information.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to analyze crime patterns and/or statistical data and draw sound conclusions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to prepare and present complex information and statistical reports in an understandable format.
  • Ability to prepare computer generated graphs, charts, maps, tables and other illustrative devices.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to effectively recommend corrective action regarding crime trends and criminal activity.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Willingness to maintain confidentiality.
  • Willingness to uphold departmental standards and policies.
  • Willingness and ability to appear in court to provide evidentiary testimony.
  • Possession of Crime Analyst certification from the Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Units by having completed the Foundation of Intelligence Analyst Training (FIAT).
DEPARTMENTAL PREFERENCES

  • Experience as a Crime Analyst.
  • Ability to acquire a Crime Analyst certification from the Association ok Law Enforcement Intelligence Units (must be done within one year of employment).

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Primarily indoors, in a climate-controlled environment.
  • Occasionally required to work beyond normal scheduled work hours.
  • Occasional local travel or out-of-town travel.
  • Frequently placed on-call after normal working hours.


NOTE: Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Manual and finger dexterity enough to operate equipment such as keyboards, calculators, etc.
  • Near vision enough to read and draft written communications or both manually and machine-generated reports, documents, graphs, etc.
  • Hearing and speech enough to communicate in person and by telephone.

NOTE: Civilian employees of the Oklahoma City Police Department must successfully complete a comprehensive background check and polygraph test prior to employment.

NOTE:
