Starting Wage DOE: $91,353 - $107,328
This position is eligible for full-time remote and/or telework if located in Montana, Wyoming, Hawaii, Kansas, Minnesota, or Texas.
The Senior Data Scientist resides within Center of Data Excellence (CODE) team and will assist the team with its mission to make Billings Clinic data-driven organization and ultimately improve patients’ lives and achieve its strategic objectives. The Senior Data Scientist at Billings Clinic will perform analysis to discover patters and insights in large amounts of structured and unstructured data, and will develop AI/ML models that impact clinical, operational, and business domains.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides deep data insights into complex problems that can be approached with analytics techniques to collect, explore, and extract intelligence from variety of data types
- Develops predictive and prescriptive analytic models in support of the organization’s clinical, operations and business initiatives and priorities.
- Identifies opportunities using machine learning, statistical techniques, and data mining
- Deploys solutions so that they provide actionable insights to the organization and are embedded or integrated with applicable systems
- Builds and extends our analytics portfolio supported by robust documentation pertaining to data science products
- Works with autonomy and independently using applied research approaches to define, discover and scope problems and to find solutions using open-source tools and in-house development
- Stays abreast of state-of-the-art literature in the fields of machine learning, deep learning, operations research, statistical modeling, statistical process control and mathematical optimization
- Creates, communicates, and manages the project plans and other required project documentation and provides updates to leadership as necessary
- Develops and maintains relationships with business, IT and clinical leaders and stakeholders across the enterprise to facilitate collaboration and effective communication
- Assists leadership with strategies for scaling successful projects across the organization and enhances the analytics applications based on feedback from end-users and clinical/business consumers
- Assists leadership with dissemination of success stories (and failures) to increase data science literacy and adoption across the organization.
- Assists in forming partnerships with external organizations and Universities around applications of ML/AI and data science to healthcare services and products.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Microsoft Office Programs (i.e., Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Excellent understanding of and ability to deploy machine learning techniques and algorithms including neural networks, convolutional neural networks, recurrent neural networks, etc.
- Combining analytic methods with advanced data visualizations
- Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL, Hive, Pig
- Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
- The ability to breakdown and clearly defines problems
- Natural curiosity, attitude towards innovation/creativity and thinking outside of the box to define and/or redefine problem and data science approach.
- Position requires the ability to demonstrate elevated levels of integrity, good judgment, assertiveness and adherence to industry best practice standards.
- Demonstrated ability to develop pragmatic and impactful data science products that impact clinical and/or research settings
- Demonstrated ability to provide business interpretation of various modeling techniques results and models explainability
- Both technical and business skill with ability to translate business problem into effective data science use case is required. Desired ability to distinguish and recognize good from bad potential applications of data science and relevant method matching business problem.
- Preferred experience with Python and its packages (xgboost, pandas, pytorch, sklearn, Keras, TensorFlow, etc.)
- Track record of research publications or creative application of data science to practical problems.
- Natural Language Processing experience using Stanza, NLTK, TextBlob, spaCY, genism and similar libraries is a plus
- Experience with JSON and Rest APIs is a plus
- Experience with execution of data science capabilities within cloud-based database technologies is a plus (for instance Snowflake)
- Experience with other programing languages is a plus (such as SQL, Java, Scala, C++ etc.)
- Experience with data visualization tools, such as Plotly, PowerBI, Tableau, etc. preferred
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Master’s Degree (Ph.D. preferred) in relevant science domain (mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, statistics, or a related field)
Experience
- 3+ years of experience (with Master’s degree) building impactful data science solutions in business or research (including but not limited to machine learning models, predictive analytics, clustering, natural language processing)
- 1+ years of experience (with PhD degree) building impactful data science solutions in business or research settings (including but not limited to machine learning models, predictive analytics, clustering, natural language processing)
- 5+ years of experience (with Bachelor’s degree) building impactful data science solutions in business or research (including but not limited to machine learning models, predictive analytics, clustering, natural language processing)
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
