The Senior Design Engineer in the Upgrades & Repower Engineering – Kitting Solutions team within PSLD is responsible for design and development efforts for machine and commercial engine upgrade opportunities.

Responsibilities:

The Upgrades & Repower Team collaborates with product groups and process partners to evaluate and retrofit all manner of new technology and ergonomic improvements from in-process and recently completed New Product Introduction (NPI) programs, including machine and engine upgrades for performance gain, emissions reduction, durability, safety, cost, and service improvement.

  • Lead/Support development of machine and commercial engine upgrade offerings
  • Work with lead engineer, product groups and process partners to support technical and economic feasibility analysis for each prospective upgrade offering
  • Lead development and release of aftermarket parts (kits) for upgrade offering
  • Lead engineering maintenance for existing upgrade offerings
  • Lead development of installation instructions for upgrade offering
  • Support with creation of ecommerce information (e.g., marketing literature, dealer training materials)
  • Support with parts planning for upgrade offerings, by, working closely with process partners
  • Coach and mentor less experience engineers/offshore engineering resources
  • Identifies areas of focus for continuous improvement
  • Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with 7 (plus) years of engineering related experience
  • Product design and development experience in machine, engine components, or systems area
  • Ability to keep multiple projects moving forward in parallel
  • Ability to travel domestically up-to 5% of the time

Top candidates will also have :

  • Experience in development of machine/upgrade offerings
  • Experience in development of creation and maintenance of kits to support aftermarket offerings
  • Ability to work well independently and as a collaborative member of a cross-functional team
  • Understanding of Caterpillar machine/engine product development process and machine/engine configuration
  • Caterpillar design experience
  • Proficiency working with computers and computer systems. Software programs used frequently include, but not limited to: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Power Point, Creo, Team Center, PRWB, TMI, SIS2.0, Price Lists, CSQ
